Richard
I replaced all of my instruments, including speedometer obtained from Classic Instruments. At the time, 2011, they sold a adapter for VW, a cable that fit square home in front wheel bearing cap with electronic transducer that interfaced with speedometer.

Hey folks, First time on Forum. I need a speedometer for the FiberFab MIGI I built in 1980. The original speedometer died. Anyone have a NOS or used speedometer or any suggestions for a substitute that would work with the VW MIGI chassis? Thanks for your help.

Bit late but can you get rid of the rear crab effect by using adjustable shocks. Thanks

I bought a walnut shift knob with a metal top MG logo at Carlisle show years ago. The thread pitch and count did not match my VW shifter. Ended up drilling and cutting threads in the knob to match. Doesn’t show the shift pattern but it can confuse those trying to steal the car from finding reverse

thanks, was able to figure out I have a 66 and not a 73 as I was told by the seller. Glad I found out before I bought a new carb, going to be buying the EMPI 30PICT-1 Carburetor

Well got a new carb and fuel pump. Installed, did static timing and it started almost immediately. Did dynamic timing with a strobe and it was amazing that it started at all. Must have been about 20 or more degrees BTC when it should have been 5 ATC after. Carb hardly needed any adjustment. Will now look at an electronic ignition but basi…[Read more]

The knob in the car now is wood with the correct VW shift pattern. Mine twists, also. I have ordered the MG shift pAttern knob and will try it out. I’ll report back after s few shows locally. I’ll see if anyone notices.

Ditto what Ed said.
I had a wooden shifter knob with the correct pattern for a VW. But that was my choice.
reality is it was rarely oriented correctly. The entire shifter tends to turn in the socket that connects it to the shift rod in the tunnel.

Stefan,
You mentioned being unsure about the year of your VW donor.
The VW VIN is stamped into the center tunnel, right next to the access panel for the shift rod to transaxle coupling (under you seat!)
Once you have the VIN, look it up here: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php
As the engine may not have come from…[Read more]

Stefan,
Kit part supplies are limited. Body parts almost non-existent. Various trim and roof/side curtains for FiberFab cars are available from MG Magic. https://mgmagicclassicmotorparts.com/
Some trim pieces are reproduction TD parts. Headlight shells, door handles, stuff like that. Moss Motors is a good place to turn.…[Read more]

Just an FYI: I have listed my alternate Plastic Clown Car on PCar Marketplace. Please check it out and bid it up as you see fit, and inform any classic Porschephiles you may be acquainted with (particularly those with money) that this particular fake 550 is an unusually fine example of the marque.
Thanks to all.

How easy are fiber fab accessory parts (replacement mirrors, tops, etc) to get? I have seen some sites selling these parts, but I would like to know if availability has always been good or if I should stockpile extra pieces?
many thanks,

Problem is you have to get the idle more or less correct before you can run a dynamic timeing. This is currently the problem I am having and it is complicated by the fact that there is a gas leak at either or both the carb and fuel pump. Replacements are on order. As of now I am not sure if you can do a static timeing on a 1970 and later engine.

Good Afternoon Folks
I have just purchased a FiberFab MG on a 1970 VW chassis. Needs some wotk but the price was right and I need someting to tinker with. Went for the VW based due to ease of working on it and availability of parts. I am in the process of getting it a safety test but cannot get it to idle. Appear to have a gas leak at eit…[Read more]
