Well, I started the process of submitting my retirement papers on Monday, 14 March. Last night I had a buddy that is a local ReMax Realtor start the process of listing and selling my home. I’ve lived in that house for almost 42 of the 48 years since my parents bought it new in August 1963. It’ll be weird moving out of it.
Although I had not planned on retiring for another year or so, after my 19 year old son finishes up at the local Community College, Uncle Sam had other ideas. I’ll end my federal government service that started the Tuesday after Labor Day in September 1969 (2 weeks after I came home from Woodstock) on 15 September 2011. I guess 42 years working for “Uncle” is enough for anyone.
I will rent locally here until I find a place in Southern Delaware (Sussex County) to buy my “dream” house/garage. That way my son can finish up at Community College on Dad’s dime.
I’ve found a few new construction possibilites in the Seaford/Laurel, DE areas. Nothing spectacular…a 1200-1400 sq. ft. ranch house and a 900 sq. ft. detached garage with enough height for a lift, 200 amp electric and running water.
I am looking forward to every day being Saturday!
Pink MG 40618.619375 March 16, 2011 at 3:24 pm #243924Congratulations on your upcoming retirement. I’m on my 11yr of retirement. I wish I could say that every day is a Saturday. Strange, but I am more busy now than when I was working. And every week I still look forward to Saturday.
I hope it’s better for you.
March 16, 2011 at 3:47 pm #243925Good luck to you Mark. Delaware should put you in easy hailing range from us.
March 16, 2011 at 4:07 pm #243926Actually, it is six Saturdays and a Sunday. You can’t play all week, you must rest at least one day.
March 16, 2011 at 5:07 pm #243927Wish I could do it. Doubt if I will ever get there, it sure sounds good, though.
March 16, 2011 at 8:11 pm #243928That is GREAT , alas I think that I will have to work 5 years after I die just to finish the projects my wife has for me to do Dan
March 16, 2011 at 11:03 pm #243929Mark,
Knowing the background, I’m sorry about the way this happened.
And I am very sorry to lose you from NJ my friend.
But….I hope you enjoy a very, very long and happy retirement!

March 17, 2011 at 9:26 pm #243935Bite Me! You beat me by two years. Honestly though congrats on your retirement. Hey! Maybe there will be another TD in your future to keep you busy during those six Saturdays each week. Enjoy it man ’cause you definitely earned it. Live long and prosper.
