Tom I went with the smallest most pratical air cleaner I could find,Its a 6″round x2″ tall And I still had to notch out the rear cover for it to clear.I think it cost around $14 with the shipping from mofoco on ebay.others have them for around $10 but want more for shipping.

Oil changes are pretty basic about the same as any other car.The only downside is the old chevy’s prior to 69 had a canister type oil filter,if your lucky it has been converted to a spin on filter. There is a conversion kit available and reasonably priced,If I recall JC whiteny has them pretty cheap..Tune ups are also about the same as any other…[Read more]

Lets check the plugs.pull al 4 and see what they look like, any evidence of fouling?A gas fouled plug will never fire correctly when at operating temp.

Granted they do not look the pretiest. But look to be more functional, and more like the originals. And the top design looks to give more headroom, which mine lacks.
Sure don’t know about the rest of you folks, but I find that that large blind spot created on the rear (absent)pillar very troublesome when making a lane change. -
Scott A Chynoweth replied to the topic British Coach Works Kit Cars in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 10 months ago
Always keep an eye on ebay,I see whole cars that need work fairly priced, and you can always resell what you don’t use/need..There is also alot of original td parts that may be modded to fit. Then there is always craigslist.
A list of what you need will help others keep an eye out. -

now on each side of that (grub)screw,is there any evidence of a weld.If there is your beam has been cut and turned. The area on each side should be smooth. However the tube could have been cut at any point between the main towers.Check it over real close a factory weld will be clean smooth and small, and look almost continuous.Hope this…[Read more] -

Yes I have a FF vw based. My engine cover to wich is supposed to reasemble the gas tank,(on the real 1’s)has a large hole in the center,To wich a fiberglass hat is supposed to fit in,to wich the spare bolts to.Well these items were missing when I bought the car.Look in my album and you will see my first design.

Well;If my speedometer is correct I was goin around 60,but it was most likey my own fault as I looked over my left shoulder and there the hat went.
I have come to realize if I stay right around 3000 rpm,I get good milage and the MG handles ok.
Still need a vw tech that knows how to do an alignment. -

Todd;
Just saw your post.
Do you have a vw based or other?,chevy/ford?
If you want the look of a real tire on the back,I just put a doughnut spare on mine,no rim, just bolted the tire to the cover and bolted the hub-cap to the tire.,and put the real spare under the hood. -

Scott A Chynoweth replied to the topic Did my first and second Valve Adjustment in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 11 months ago
Here’s another valve adjustment tip;you should use 3 feeler gauges;if your setting calls for 6 use a 5 and a 7.the 5 should go through and the 7 should not.The reason behind this is the amount of drag for each person setting vavle clearance is different.

by chance are you running a blended fuel(10% ethenol/alchohol) this stuff causes big broblems in the fuel system in a vehical that is not driven regulary.I had this problem last year, long story but a carb rebuils solved the problem as most of the gaskets inside the carb were eaten away. You may have to bite the bullet and run 100% gas.

It’s not that bad.My only consern is the rusted out area on the main center tunel in the pick.If thats the worst of it you should be ok.Be sure to price out all your replacement sheet metal,I went with 14 gauge sheet steel myself.turned out to be a cheeper route,a little more work but stronger than vw floor pans.check my photo album.
