Well, it runs again. Hope this one lasts. It’s larger and is louder but it can’t be heard over the exhaust noise.

Couldn’t keep a mechanical pump to keep from leaking oil. As it was a PITA to change with the steering shaft in the way, I blocked it off and went electric.Lowest point in the car is the front crossmember at just over 4″.

(Cross-posted from Allison gas tank thread, in response to Mustang_evetS, who observed that an aside in a technical post about fiberglass tanks being destroyed by ethanol mentioned that epoxy mfg’s admitted to some degradation as well):

Steve: Thanks for your concern. This link opens the Quick Steel data sheet as a pdf. It’s made to plug holes in gas tanks. Supposedly it’s impervious to gas and ethanol.
There’s no sign of degradation of the epoxy so far. The peel-off is an adhesion issue, which I expected. Right now (and barring any new data over the next week or two–this thing’s… -

I know I would rather see the 2332cc but just making it there to Carlisle would be the goal.

Whoa: “EPA 8260 fuel analysis of a sample of fuel taken from a 1968 Bertram 31 located on Long Island Sound indicated 736,426 µg/L of styrene, a component of polyester resin.”
That explains much. Like why I was told never to put gas in a styrofoam cup. -

Top was home in the garage. In 2000 Pa redesigned their license plates. The old one is used a backing.

And we have our first failure.
No leaks, but I decided to check the inside of my swirl tank and when I unscrewed the top (bottom, in my concept) I found that the O-ring had grown about one size larger than it had been before.Looked in the cap and saw–no surprise–the epoxy was separating from the plastic that it doesn’t like to stick to.I’m p… -

Good thoughts, Roy. I had not considered a copper solution. Very steam punk.

Fire extinguisher, right?
Mine’s holding up OK so far. Had some weeping past the bolts I used to plug the ends of the hoses. Turns out bolts have threads.Anyway, seems a little gas and swelling has put a stop to that. No leaks at or near the epoxy joints. No sign of deterioration of the plastic. -

I did, just before the run to VA Beach I had installed a solenoid style pump. ( looks like an in line fuel filter) Going to try a vane style pump. It’s larger, but I have the room, I think.

Just for the record: what brand of pump failed, and after how long? I thought you’d replaced that bugger last year?
