‘Twas a beautiful day Saturday so I took the beast to work. Leaving work, about half way home the engine sputters and dies. Looked to have fuel, could hear the pump running, but it wouldn’t stay running. Came home on a tow truck. Strapping the car down, we snapped one of the rods that locate the rear. The tow truck operator was extremely upset…[Read more]

Thanks, Paul. To your questions:
1. No. (That’s why it’s vented back to the air space at the top of the fuel tank, which is in-turn vented to the atmosphere.2. Don’t know. I suppose it would have been smarter to test the cap (and 0-ring) before doing this fab, but I was having too much fun chuckling to myself about the project. So That test comes… -

OK, don’t laugh at my fuel system just because I’m using a water bottle as a key component.
If it doesn’t work I’ll have Mike the muffler guy weld me up something manlier. -

Thanks Roy and Paul,I guess I have a couple of options – leave as is or add a bracket. When I googled pictures they all have the groove facing the driver on the original cars.

I believe that’s a four-cam model. Hence the cutouts. Very cool.

Old Chrysler’s used an inline fuel filter that had a return line. NAPA number 3054. Sorry, can’t get a photo to post.

The last major decisions on this project involve fuel delivery. I’d like y’all to help me think about this.
To recap, the Soob needs 35-lbs of fuel pressure at the injector rail. It’s a three-line return system that terminates in an in-tank fuel pump/swirl pot system in a two-bay tank (with a second internal pump to balance the fuel between each… -

Mine are metal, fiberglassed on both sides by the guy that built the car. He told me this; I believe him. I’ve got to drill them this weekend so if there turns out to be no metal there I’ll update.

To post photo… Click on the the strange double square with the arrow. This takes you to another dialogue box with more stuff on it. Click on the tree with the “up” arrow on it. This takes you to yet another box that allows you to search your library for the photos you want to post.. Clear as mud, right?

The aftermarket ones are usually (always?) thinner gauge metal. Imho you don’t need the weight savings.
Here are some 18 gauge at $340.Cip1 has the same price. https://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C24-111-701-061-MTIt is said that the cheaper ones are 20 or 22. I don’t know. The floor pans on my car were fiberglassed, stem to… -
edward ericson replied to the topic Fuel tank sender/float in the forum VW Based Kits 11 years, 5 months ago
Mike: If you have an aftermarket gauge with a stock VW sender, the two may not be compatible. I ran into that (or the opposite of that–aftermarket sender with a stock gauge) when I redid my car’s dash a couple years back. Learned a lot about ohms. And you can too.

Any more word on the shirts before I order the black t-shirts on Ebay? – I think they look nice and I would rather have a T vs. a Polo.
