For parts availability old iron Chevy stuff is right up there with VW, and the HP-per-$ ratio can’t be beat. If you’re even a little patient at the junk yard or swap meet you can make 400 reliable horses for $1,000. Irrelevant to VW-based TD work though, unless you want a real project. That said, the new GM crate engines–LS3 and such–are a…[Read more]

Amazing, Dan. I’ve seen some very nice ones–including one that was raced by Carroll Shelby–go for less than $19k in the past three years, and a lot priced over $20k on the ‘bay not make their opening bid. Never saw one do more than maybe $21k–and I think that was a low-mile, well-documented early Mark II that was perfect. This car looks nice,…[Read more]

The TC buyer made the better deal.Still thinking that $71,500 was a typo. Maybe should’ve been $17,500.

It’s a 3 3/8-inch “White Hot” series Classic Instrument tach. Seems to be a standard size for aftermarket instruments and very much the common size for TD Replicas. Fits in a 3 3/8-inch hole in the dash and the edge of the bezel looks to be a little more than 3.5 inches.Definitely look at your hookup wire to the coil first, and check your…[Read more]

That’s 4-5 normal TD’s worth of dollars there.Meanwhile, there’s this nicely appointed small block powered one.

$62,000 spent, I could believe. $71,000 sale price is a stretch. Good for him if it’s true.

Since you’re keen to keep the old one in place, any chance you could get it fixed–or replaced with one just like it? Having a non-working stereo face in the dashboard just “for looks” while a separate head unit is mounted elsewhere seems just . . . odd. Here’s a company that claims expertise in fixing old car radios. Not an endorsement, but if…[Read more]

Wow. Thanks, Roy. Let’s hold off though because Allen stepped up. He says he might have one on the shelf in his garage.Meanwhile, I’ll have a closer look at my switch. I think I might have the later one out of a ’71. It’s got a few more pins on it, though I’m not using nearly all of them.More later. And thanks again.:-)

Looks like you’ll need a rotary wing rating for the PAL-V. The other one is more of a driving plane than a flying car. Looks like a good performer though. Here’s another version a dude came up with a few years back. Short take off and landing–he says you could take off from a football field and clear the field goal stanchions–so you don’t need to…[Read more]

I learned the going price for those from you, Paul. Still a decent deal since you get the shell and the slats. When I saw last night it was mid 2’s I thought I should maybe bid. Had it set to ring me an hour before the auction ended, but missed the alarm. It was over when I checked. I wish they were a bit cheaper. At that price it might be worth…[Read more]

The upholstery on my BCW is just screwed into the ‘glass. Goes back on easy. On the part that’s rug you should be able to find the phillips heads by probing around with a screw driver. By all means do that. Most of the parts on this car were assembled with fender washers and lock washers, but the door hinges might have come pre-attached to either…[Read more]

So the rope seal and the new style seal are not cross-compatible? One suspects that anything Rover did would have been more likely to leak oil, but I want to be sure.Aluminum V8!! That is too cool.

If you need one, I have one to sell.
Bought it a couple years back on ebay. Wrong size (I was converting to bigger instruments) but they wouldn’t take it back. This one’s about 3 3/8 inches. Let me know if you’re interested.

Nice, Roy. Some of us talked about this potential issue a year or two back. There was an aftermarket safety latch some guy made that was supposed to catch the door handle on the inside. I like your solution better. On a possibly related note, I found that, on my car, the door latches were installed wrong: the “catch” was only on the secondary…[Read more]

Hit it in 4th while going fairly slow–45 mph or so. If you rev without accelerating then your clutch is slipping
Might need a new one, or it could be out of adjustment.Look here for tests and things to check.

You can get an in-line fuel filter for a Chrysler product which has three lines. One in, one out, and one for vent.
