  • JEGS.com has several guages at excellent pricing. They also have the appropriate sending units as well. This is mainly a Muscle Car web site, but has guages as well, less expensive then other VW online web sites.Dave

  • Welcome Ryan! From the above comments you are at the right place at the right time. Congratulations on “re finding” your Uncle’s car. This group has a vast resource of very knowledgable folks. We also enjoy seeing pictures of our members cars, and their projects on them. Regards……….. Dave

  • Greetings again Rick! In my humble opinion I would keep the TDr. Why, well depending on the condition of the orginal TD wooden “structural Integerity” and “mechanical reliably” I would opt for keeping the TDr. My thoughts are, yes it is an orginal, but parts for originals can be very expensive to obtain, and you have to pay for shipping costs to…[Read more]

How well has your your TDr has been accepted in the various NJ British Car Shows? The MG Car Cub of the Tampa Bay, Fl area, has put me in the “Special Interest Class Section” of the British Car Shows here. I can participate in all events, but I can not be considered able to be judged for Show Awards. The so called “Purist MG People” still snub…[Read more]

  • Very nice TDr, but I must say “asking and selling price” will probably be about a $6000 difference………….. Just Saying. I do wish Andy the best of luck getting his asking price. There is an Orginal TD in the Tampa, Fl area, by owner for $14,000, in great condition, with many new Moss parts.Dave

This is exactly what I did for my horn on my Duchess. I found that having a horn button on the dash, helped to avoid the horn wire from wrapping around the steering column, as the Steering Wheel was turned, or chaffing in the column and causing a shortDave

What kind of of TDr do you have? There are several wiring diagrams in the assembly manuals, in the menu of our web site. What I did for my Classic Roadster Duchess wiring, was To color each wire in the wiring harness, with a corespond ing colored felt tip crayloa fine tip felt pen. I then could see a “minds eye” where each wire went, from…[Read more]

  • I emailed the guy and he wants 45K for it. Probably means ($4,500). NC has a 7 % sales tax, but he said if he got cash, he would fudge on the sales price for title xter. It has passed all recent NC State MV Inspections. I thought it might be a nice 2nd car, when I visit my daughter in Cary, NC, form where I live in FL. The new top, side curtains…[Read more]

  • Hey John, you may want to do a google search for “Robs and Dave’s VW Repair”. They are a good web resource on all things VW. A lot of my VW Samba friends use their online advice for questions, and problems. I only use a local VW Dune Buggy shop here in Florida, as they rebuilt my engine for $1600, (just a long block rebuild) It sounds like after…[Read more]

I am in the process of replacing my interior, on my 1985 self built Classic Roadsters Dutchess. I have already completed the Convertible Top, using Marine Grade Tan Vinyl. Interesting enough, I got the plastic for the rear window, from Walmart Fabric Dept. it is a very heavy guage clear plastic. For the interior vinyl, I am using the same color…[Read more]

  • I just ordered the new Wind Wing Hardware, from Finish Line Auto Parts. They are the exact same as the hardware that came with my Classic Roadsters Duchess Kit, back in 1985. They are quite pricy though, about $56 including shipping from California to Florida, for a set of four hinges and fasteners. Now I have to get some Plexi Glass from Hm Depot…[Read more]

  • I second what Allison says about using a plastic zip tie. It was easy to install, then I lube the heck out of the shift rod and the bushing. Rob and Dave’s VW article about removing and repair on the shifter, always use the phrase of “Ramp up Right” when reinstalling the shifter plate. This has served me well upon my annual lubing up the shift rod…[Read more]

  • Hey Paul, try this link for the style of Wind Wing Hardware for our Classic Roadster Duchess.https://www.finishlineaccessories.com/p-328-wind-wings-hardware.aspxGood luck with this, I called and they did not return my message to them. It is very similar to what we have, and may have to be modified a little bit. Please let me know how it worked out…[Read more]

Hey Langan, I looked up on google for a Windsheild/Glass company, and they cut me a new flat autoglass windshield. They installed it in my orginal Dutchess TDr frame, all for about $150. Just a thought. I also purchased on line from a Dune Buggy web site, new rubber gaskets and the frame to car car molding. I do not remember the cost for the new…[Read more]

  • Ed this may sound crazy, but when I work in the garage on a cold day, I put a fan in the garage window, open up the addict access stairs, and suck all of the warm addict air into the garage. If you currently use a propane fired heater, remember to have a fresh air inlet, and monitor carbon monoxide levels. (I am just looking out for your greater…[Read more]

  • One big thing to consider if you purchase the orginal TD, is that you might have to purchase some of the orginal style ” wrenches, and sockets”. Many people do not realize, but orginal British tools are not a true metric size. The English mechanics had their own sizes. Just my two cents, if it were me………. I would stay with your Fiberglass…[Read more]

You may want to see if the battery posts and cable connections are clean and tight. A little bit of corrosion, can make a big difference if the battery will charge and start. You might also check to be sure the battery has the proper level of water in it. Also be sure that you have a good ground to the starter, as frame ground connections also…[Read more]
