I use 3M Fiberglas Cleaner and Polish from West Marine. But it takes a lot of elbow grease on the hard spots.

Thanks, guys. I’m having a professional appraise the car next week. I will let you know, but I’m in no big hurry.

How hard is it to remove the vertical left side of the hood to get at the starter?

Welcome aboard. This is a great site with lots of mutual support. I
live in Sacramento and have a BCW Chevette based MG. The drive
train is right out of a 1976 Chevette and the Haines manual is very
helpful. Also the wiring appears to be lifted out of the Chevette. -

Zarco, welcome to the Forum. There’s a lot of good advice here. I
drive a BCW Chevette based TD replica and live in California. Try to
buy a car that is already registered as a 1975 or earlier so you will be
exempt from smog requirements. Failing that, try to get an SB100
exemption. It’s a hassle but worth it. My car was registered as a…[Read more] -

Re: wheel size. The 14″ wheels were on the car when I bought it and were
not original to the Chevette, which were 13″. I don’t know where the 14″
wheels came from. The car was a basket case when I got it and barely running. The drive
home was sporting, to say the least. Luckily, all the bits and pieces were
with it, and the body and en…[Read more] -

I don’t like wire baskets and went a different route. I sanded and painted
the wheels, then went to a local hubcap junk shop. He found the little
hubcaps (off a Chrysler, as I recall). I polished and mounted them, then got
the MG decals from Fast Signs. They were running a special. Total cost for
five wheels, $85.00. Photo in the gallery.

It is a BCW. The reason I didn’t use the other pieces is because they didn’t
fit. The door panel were close, but no banana.I posted some new photos to the Photo Galley, but really screwed up the one
with the question mark. Now I can’t delete the extra ones! -

I use Monroe 32153 on the front and Monroe Gas-matics 32126 on the
rear. -

Welcome,
The VIN number on my BCW is located in two places. One is on the firewall
in the engine compartment. It was partially hidden by the heater box. The
other place is beneath the steering wheel column, on the firewall, behind the
dash. It was painted over. -

Ed,
Thanks for the kind offer for the manual, but I have the front-engined
model. Someone out there will need it eventually.
Hope you don’t get too snowed in. Where is global warming when you need
it? -

Many thanks for all the info. I keep tinkering with “Penelope” and she’s
running pretty good. -

Thanks for the update and the heads up on boiling out the radiator. My car
has been getting up to 210 degrees on hot days. I flushed the radiator but
that didn’t make any difference. - Load More
