Richard Shear replied to the topic HELP WITH GENERATOR in the forum General Discussion 9 years, 8 months ago
My LR is also factory built and I think the guy who converted from a generator to an alternator added an extra light. Red light on mine is high/low beam and blue is alternator. Blue stays on until rpm’s increases or will shut off after a few minutes. Alternator will not charge battery until light goes off, amp gauge verifies that.

I heard the same thing about the light completing the circuit , mine will not charge the battery until the light goes out and I am using an alternator.

I read somewhere that the charging system runs thru a light on the dash. The London Roadster has a blue light. The blue light comes on when you start your car but does’t start charging the battery until the light goes out. That’s the way mine works. I use an alternator.

as i needed parts i kept track of what year and model vw they were originally used on. The LR company did not seem to be real consistant. We have never found a factory Parts Manual. I sent all my sales documentation to this site. I have an addon oil filter on mine. EMPI carb and exhaust. My EMAIL is GBIDICK@AOL.COM. Send me an email with LR in…[Read more]

The factory frame looks as good as it did in 1986. LR are fairly rare with a factory chassis. Top and tonneu are in great shape. extra windshield. It does need rear shocks because I never got around to change them. Been traveling a lot and only put 50 miles on the car last year. I have picture’s in the gallery. Also has a built in tow system.

I will be selling my London Roadster soon as I will be moving and will not have a garage. Guess you don’t need a garage in Florida. Need to find a caring home for the LR.

The London Roadster has a rear shock that is mounted in the center of the rear coil spring. The front has a coil over shock. If you remove the rear shock you should be able to buy a matching shock. Must do both sides in the rear. If you can’t get a replacement then get a shock that would be in the middle of it’s throw when the car is sitting on…[Read more]

We have been looking for a manual for years. The owner’s manual and marketing manual is the closest I have found that has any information. Wouldn’t be the same as any of the other cars because it was factory built. I have replace the clutch cable and front brakes of mine. Parts are VW and easy to buy if you know what year and make VW was used in…[Read more]

Be careful when filling it with gas as the side filler is picky, I have to tip the end of the gas nozzle up so it will fill without splashing back at you. got to listen for the gas coming up the filler neck to stop before it kicks back if you are filling it. Also use a gas treatment for ethanol or use non-ethanol gas. Many different thoughts on…[Read more]

Welcome to the club. You’ll love the London Roadster. Can’t beat the factory chassis and hopefully it still has the factory VW motor. Lots of HP.Dick

ethanol can be harmful to any carburetor engine. Doesn’t matter if it is a rebuilt engine. Rebuilding the engine doesn’t reduce the harm ethanol can cause. Always treat your ethanol gas whether it be your TD or lawn mower, chainsaw etc. Treat all gas that will be used with a carburetor or stored for a period of time. Also keeps the gas in…[Read more]
