I’d like to, but I keep getting a “critical error “ message as you did a few days ago with no reply.
I see you got it figured out, however. The latest instructions I could find did not work for me. I tried to post on an IPad and Windows 10. If I can get it work, I send you what I have.

I had always found my original VW Fiberfab seats uncomfortable. After a few minutes, it felt like sitting on plywood, because I was! I decided to try a conventional VW Type 1 seat bottoms that I found at a swap meet. It took a lot of cutting and grinding to make them fit the narrowed seat pans and a 3 inch high pedestal. I also narrowed the seat…[Read more]

I’m probably way too late for a timely response. I had the same problem and purchased a VW Bus turn signal. It has a straight stalk. Plenty of clearance. Gregg

Gregg Strain replied to the topic VW Floor Pan replacement in the forum VW Based Kits 2 years, 9 months ago
Well, I’m ashamed to tell you this and now I can expect some chastisement! When I bought my Fiberfab VW, I knew it had a ton of issues and and replacing the pans was way down the list! (It WAS cheap!) So I took a shortcut that is in the temporary category. The pans had some holes in the seat area, but there was still sufficient good metal. Get th…[Read more]

Hagerty is a good choice AND I love the magazine an all the videos. My regular vehicles are with Progressive. I had my TD first on Progressive and was satisfied until my agent recommended Hagerty which took a reasonable effort from the agent to underwrite, but the savings were significant. They will ask for secure storage and pictures!

Gregg Strain replied to the topic Alignment specifications on Fiber Fab TD in the forum General Discussion 3 years, 6 months ago
Well, I went to my local shop that has done my tires, oil changes and light repairs for many years, for my alignment. Toe in was acceptable as is, but the “technician” and I had a discussion about the camber adjustment. He insisted that the car did not any eccentrics installed and showed me what they were supposed to look like. I informed him tha…[Read more]

”Surprise surprise!”, said Gomer. I never knew shims existed for castor adjustment. I thought that whatever you had, you were stuck with.
Once again, proof that this site is made for VW rookies like me. Thanks Gregg

Thanks for your timely help. Normally, I would be a little apprehensive about accepting information from somebody with a screen name of Crash55, but since you recommended Jim’s Custom VW – I knew you were okay! LOL.
I actually bought a complete new engine from them 3 years ago as well as other parts. I think Jim and Amy are great and caring p…[Read more] -
Gregg Strain started the topic Cool tins – needed in the forum How-To Do Things in the Forums & on the Web-site 4 years, 7 months ago
I have a FF TD with a newly assembled VW duel port that runs too hot.
I have provided an air gap around the fake tire cover, changed the main jets to a much richer setting and added the rear apron tin. The last two were the most help. Has anybody installed “cool tins” under the cylinders to divert more air around the heads instead of the cyl…[Read more]

Gregg Strain replied to the topic Dashboard layout and controls in the forum VW Based Kits 4 years, 11 months ago
The VW instrument panel had a charging warning light, but with a generator charging system, it’s presence was not critical for the system to charge. Some generator cars did not have a warning light as they were equipped with an amp gauge as an upgrade. On an alternator equipped VW, the light must be working as it signals the alternator to c…[Read more]

Very, very nice on the dash! It looks like you did a lot of work and redoing until you got it the way you wanted. (I like the gold!)
Just a question. I saw that you are changing the incandescent lights to led’s. Is one of the two to be used for the charging light? If you’re using a VW alternator, that bulb must be an incandescent bulb for the…[Read more]

Gregg Strain replied to the topic New top for 52@ MGTD Fiber Fab in the forum MGTD Kit Cars 5 years ago
I’ve found going to a marine canvas shop is the best bet. These places are familiar with making custom tops because of the variety of boats on the market. I was quoted for a new top for mine with side curtains for $400. I will using my old bows, but they can make those too. All kinds and colors of material. Everything will be fitted to my e…[Read more]

There is a photo in my album of my dash before I added the labels. I’ll try to put a fresh one in this weekend.

When I bought my FF TD 3 years ago, the only circuit that worked was the brake lights. The dashboard was some sort of fiberglass panel that about 15 previous owners managed to modify in some manner. It was just a mess and absolutely no relays which caused most of the switches to fail. I did find a manual for FiberFab and I had the original wire…[Read more]

One thing to consider is the snap placement on your vehicle. A custom made top may or may not be a good fit, even if it’s the same kit manufacturer. It may depend on the type of frame you both have for example – two bows or three and where they’re mounted. Even the MG Magic kit requires you to install the snaps on the top, because of where the ind…[Read more]

I agree with Crash55 about going to a marine cover maker. My car is in Port Clinton, Ohio (Lake Erie) and the number of businesses is very huge. I’m having a top done next week and they have good ideas on making it more convenient than the original. The boat people are constantly making tops for an extreme variety of marine craft and have a sel…[Read more]

Gregg Strain replied to the topic Steering wheel adapter in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 5 years, 5 months ago
I had a similar problem with my VW adapter. I took it to a machine shop and they shortened it by two inches. Cost was $20. I also changed to the VW van turn signal assembly because the stalk sticks out straight and is not angled like other models. I felt the switch was going be too close to the wheel and I would hit it while turning.
its all good! Gregg
