Sometimes ebay will have those, but rarely. I finally removed my little rusty ones and watched ebay. Several times I have seen the original MGTD parts show up at a good price. I have found a lot of items on ebay lately for MGTD.

Dan is right about getting the cover off from the backside. I had to remove mine to get to the sending unit. I finally found a bad ground feeding the gauges like what Ringo was talking about. I did clean up the sender, which is a very simple mechanism. I remounted the spare mount to the outside of the fake tank housing this time like Dan did and…[Read more]

Rich,
You the man. I think Larry only had one vote. I must have changed at the last minute. I know I hovered around Larry’s button for a while, but have slept since I voted and reset my brain, couldn’t remember exactly who I voted for.
Good voting. Hopefully Larry will post some pics for the Pink MG. Mark did you take some pics on the exchange?

Great! So now it works just fine from a dead start?
Transmission science is so fascinating and so above my head, glad you got it working. Great idea trying that.

James Cochran replied to the topic Steering wheel for VW TD in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 16 years, 3 months ago
I have a Grant steering wheel adapter on mine and it works great. Allows for many different steering wheels to be used without having to buy the expensive fitted wheels. I think I picked it up at AutoZone. They may have one for the VW also. I know what you mean about zero dish, gives more breathing room

WOW. I was watching the movie in my head while reading about the adventure. It is such a gut wrenching feeling when you’re on the road, far from home, and things start going bad. I was somewhat in your area last week on my TD-less roadtrip in North Georgia and up in NC on the Parkway. We were west of you in the Asheville area, traveling the…[Read more]

Mark,
I tasted the Mystery Oil…no wonder it lowered your Cholesterol, it will lower all sorts of stuff
. Leaves an after taste you just can’t get rid of. puy puy
yuk yuk……………….nice color though! My engine likes, similar to good old homecooking for the mechanicals with a dose of colon cleanser in the mix.

Rich,
I do love the inexpensive parts for these cars. I forgot what the fuel pump was, but it was like pocket change. Speaking of swine flu….right now, in Memphis, is the International Bar B Que contest. My office is downtown, one block from the river where the contest is being held. Thousands of people, miles of booths and competitors from…[Read more] -

I didn’t look at it. I will definitely check it out.
Ringo, I think you’re right…swine flu….
There is something else that I forgot to mention because I was so shocked when the crankshaft did rotate. There is the normal resistance when turning the crankshaft with pistons attached and the plugs out, except at one point. The resistance is…[Read more] -

Update:
I will be leaving Friday at noon for our weeklong TD road trip thru the mountains just north of Atlanta. Our problem is our TD is not running for this trip, so to summarize I went thru everything I could think of to find out why the engine locked up so suddenly and without the engine running. It was locked up when I tried to start it. This…[Read more] -
James Cochran replied to the topic Anyone seen one of these? in the forum General Discussion 16 years, 4 months ago
I have not seen one in person, but I have several MG books that have this automobile in it. Looks much like a Singer. The car is nice, but I much prefer the T series. This MG YT makes me think of a bloated TD, a bit puffy compared to the slim trim sexy TD
. One of the early MG’s was called the speckled hen because it had a fabric covered body that…[Read more]

Geoff,
All weekend I kept thinking and worrying over that side curtain. In my mind I knew your dad would not let her travel without it, and then I kept thinking about Marlon Brando and Stella (link above).
I have indeed bonded with my car (James Bond here) more than when I restored her. Now I am a surgeon with the patient all over the driveway.

. Can you set up a cot next to her?

BTW, Did they put on the side curtain on the driver’s side before hitting the road? In the pics it was off, hopefully to just get it on the trailer. -

It’s still raining here, I need to get back on the Ark project.
I decided to not pull the engine until I get back from our TD road trip (without the TD) on the 23th. I have decided that it is in the clutch / flywheel area, 98.4% sure. The clutch petal has a different feel to it when depressed, can’t describe it, but just feels different, seems to…[Read more] -
