PMOSSBERG wrote:If your clutch cable pulled out of the shortening kit, you didn’t tighten it down enough. It’s a crush fit. You want to tighten the bolt down over the cable, not just up to the cable.Ed’s clamping approach works too. I would NOT trust the jamb nut alone. Mine pulled out. I suggest adding a cable clamp to make sure the loop stays closed.

No matter what you think of the dealer, that is one nice looking car. Did you notice that the screws attaching the inside door panels are exactly spaced? Great attention to detail there.

Assuming that your replica is VW based and that you want the horn ” system” to function as Hans and Gunter intended this link will be helpful. http://www.thebugshop.org/bsfqhorn.htmBe forewarned that diagnosing this problem will probably require pulling the gas tank and nest to access all parts of the steering shaft. That’s also a good time to…[Read more]

I’m with Billinparts. I think that 3d printing of non-structural, limited demand parts is the future. I understand that if you have one original or a 3d CAD file you are good to go.

Here is a similar mod I did to provide some space for in-cockpit stuff that would go in the glove compartment (if I had one).
I found a prefinished mahogany shelf as wide as the space between the interior sides and about 12″ deep. For improved appearance I cut the front edge to match the double curve profile of the dash. I mounted it with a p…[Read more]

That area of the front end behind the bumper and badge bar is interesting too. Solution to steering gear access? Suspension mods?
I rechecked mine and the area where the front of the fender meets the side of the hood is molded into the front fender on both sides.
Part of the endless variety of the kitcar world.

Also be advised that small u joints are very common on the steering linkages of modern cars, especially minivans, and a trip to the junkyard could yield a solution to a misalignment problem. 🙂 Kall2014-08-02 14:17:46

IMHO:A basic problem on my FF was that both front and rear lights wiring ran loose and unprotected on the underside of the fenders to the connection point with the lights. I decided that this was a potential problem because the connections could vibrate loose or in the event of a tire tread loss the wiring might be ripped off, compounding your…[Read more]

Is it possible that there is something fundamentally wrong with the coolant flow path. Pardon me but that is a technical way of saying “is something plugged up, blocked off, or put on backwards?” Yours is obviously not a simple conversion and many things could trip you up.Best of Luck and Success

I may be a bit late to the party but I had very similar experiences with sloppy/lumpy steering. The builder had skipped fabricating and installing a bushing in the steering tube, insufficient clearance with the body panels next to the steering box connection, loose bolts in the couplings, excess play in the steering box, steering limit stops set…[Read more]
