Using short sections of removed torsion bar stack is only critical for the 1965 and earlier link-pin front suspension, AFAIK. It is not essential for the 1966 and later ball joint suspension, as long as the grub screws will tighten securely. It is a good practice Using those short sections reduces the possibility of developing a stress crack in…[Read more]

Yes, the rear is longer. The radius of the curved ends is also different.

Yep – rounding. Stock 69mm crank x 88mm pistons/cylinders = 1679cc displacement.

I like those wheels – less the 3-bar spinners. 2-bar knockoffs would have been more appropriate. Looks like a 1930s US touring car, overall, rather than a light weight, nimble sports car.

Check with this guy in Knoxville TN – he’s a Moss Motors distributor, and his prices are lower than Moss directly…I got a complete set, font and rear with overriders, inside face bars, spacers, chrome bolts, rubber seals, and the front “S” braces and bolts for $600 – about $100 less than ordering directly from Moss…http://www.sportscarpartsltd.com

Since it has the Pope’s nose and emblem, it is a good deal. I think I paid around $400 for mine, without them. But, mine was is usable condition. This one requires rechroming.

It just might be a worn starter bushing – the one in the tranny. I’ve seen that to cause this symptom. Somehow, the heat buildup in the engine and tranny can cause the armature to bind a bit…

Nice car and a nice project to complete! Hope the automatic tranny doesn’t discourage would-be buyers! Good luck on the sale!

The larger gauges just look so much more appropriate for the curved lines of the dashboard. Well done!

Nothing will remove crazing. You have to paint over it…As far as dull oxizidation, I’ve had good luck with Meguir’s Ultimate Polishing Compound. It took multiple application, but it is cleaning up fairly nicely.

Well I also disagree with his statement about caster shims if both the front and rear have been lowered. Lowering or raising the rear has little effect on the caster of the front wheels – it’s the change in ride height and resulting angle of the front torsion/trailing arms. The height of the rear has a tiny impact on the angle, but not much…The…[Read more]

No, that solenoid shuts off the flow of fuel to the main jet in the carb. It is spring-loaded, and the solenoid only allows fuel to flow through the carb when the ignition switch is on. Turn the ignition off, and the fuel stops flowing, preventing engine run-on, dripping etc.

Does your carb have a fuel shutoff (aka anti-dieseling) solenoid on it? Does it work? I’too, have never had float issues with a stock Soles carb..
