  •  Hi MGLR, Glad to have you on the forum!!.
I reread your post to be sure I was seeing correctly and you did say ”drive it back”. I checked mapquest to be sure and it’s about 1500 miles. I have owned a VW based london roadster since 1994 and 200 miles is my longest trip. I wish you well ,it’s going to be an adventure to say the least. I’m not…[Read more]

  •  Well it’s back on E-bay Motors again. This time it’s in Pa.,looks like it has been polished up and the rust removed. The new seller is still advertising the things Mark did in 2000 as though they were done recently. It is still a great little car but it seems to be getting swapped arround by speculators who are only interested in making money .…[Read more]

  •  GrandpaJo,Welcome to the forum!!
Click on the search button at the top of the page and search for Design Classics. There are a bunch of posts giving info on these cars. We have a member in Kansas who has one of them. They are very much like the FiberFab/CMC cars.

  •  Paul, I agree with you on the kits with the full height grille. Back in 1994,when I bought my first TD replica, I was too excited to notice that the grille was too short,as compared with the original MG. I’ve spent the last 17 years wishing it was the correct height. It appears that the designers of the kit mounted the body farther back on the…[Read more]

  •  Hi and welcome to the forum.
I own a VW based London Roadster and a Chevette based British Coach Works as well. The LR is very reliable and a marvel of simplicity but the BCW is more like the original MG and better quality in general.Performance of both is as good or even slightly better than the original but I prefer the BCW because the front e…[Read more]

  •  DickH, Thanks for posting the picture,I’ve been wondering about your wheels since you put your car in the photo gallery. I see that they are 14”. I was thinking that the Chevette came with 13” wheels.Just wondering if they were originally from the Chevette donar car or from something else. I’ve seen two BCWs on the internet with wheels that…[Read more]

  •  On my VW based car ,I’m using wire wheelcovers from a front wheel drive Buick Rivera. I drilled and taped a hole for a very short 1/4 ”bolt in the space between the lug nuts. I bent a piece of flat metal to reach from one hole to the other, while extending out over the hub cap/axle nut. I used a 5/16 bolt to reach thru the center of the hub cap…[Read more]

  •  Some of the early kits ,Daytona MiGI,I think, used what look to me to be the British type you mentioned. They used short lengths of  round tubing with threaded rod running thru it to space the rack above the tire.
Later some kit manufacturers made their own racks designing them to clear the tire.
IMHO the racks that are mounted only to the fibe…[Read more]

  •  The London Roadster uses a custom made aluminum  gas tank that mounts low in the front compartment leaving lots of useable ”trunk” space, all of which is nicely carpeted. That’s the good part, now for the bad. They used a braided hose to connect tank to the fill cap which is a marine version but they attached it to the outside of the left hood s…[Read more]

  •  After looking at the pictures, I agree that it’s a pretty accurate description. Quite a collection.

  •  Search  Victoria British . In their catalog the mirrors are on page 33 , $14.95 ea part # 9-182 lh convex, part # 9-183 rh convex.
The head light stone guards are on page 96 ,part # 9-265 $11.95 pr.
Victoria British do not list parts for the TD ,they only go back to the MG A ,but these parts are the same on both the A and the TD. I pur…[Read more]

  •  Hi Karen, Thanks for the pictures, that’s a good looking London Roadster!! I have a yellow LR that I’ve owned since 1994 My wife now says it is her car since I got the BCW about two years ago.
Feel free to ask questions, we enjoy sharing our ”knowledge”.
BTW, the mirrors on your car are mounted opposite from most of our cars. If you order a r…[Read more]

  •  I agree, he did produce some beautiful customs but IMHO ,this was not one of them. The Jag was not a design to be messed with. Back in high school, one of my classmates dated a boy who owned a green XK-120. It turned every head when he pulled in the school driveway.

  •   Ed, I’ve been watching that one too.  I’m taking it as a sign of better days ahead. It was a very nice TD.

  •  Rollie, Neat tag!!
Does it say  VW IN DRAG,  V WIND RAG or V WIN DRAG ?
    Whatever it says ,it’s cool.LOL

  •  Good job!!! Just goes to show that patience pays dividends. Glad it worked out for you.
What’s  that animal in the background?

  •  Are the bows the correct height for the top? I know the top material shrinks over time but 4” seems a little much.Do you have the front bow slide positioned as low as it will go on the rear bow? Last,is the windshield mounted at the correct angle? By tilting the windshield to the rear of the car you can get the two closer together but if you…[Read more]

  •  If those wire wheels are as good as they look in the pictures, they are worth at least half of the price of the car. The wireing looks scarey in the pic of the battery box but could be a not too big of a problem  With these cars ,you just keep thinking of all the fun you will have building, adding your own personal touches and driving it when it’s finished.

  • Larry Murphy replied to the topic kit weight in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 4 months ago

Duky, I don’t know the pound weight of a kit body, but I feel comfortable saying that a reasonably healthy man could lift one corner without difficulty. If you have all the bolts out , it’s possible that the builder used some type of caulking to seal the body/pan joint and this may be holding the two sections together. Try using a wide flat tool…[Read more]

  •  If you are referring to the metal frame work that the fiberglass panels attach to ,I would be very cautious . The fiber glass panels may not be in proper position.,The steering column can be lowered by making a bracket if necessary. Unless the frame was built to the wrong measurments, something else may be wrong.
