  •  Ed, Is it possible that your left front wheel is an aftermarket item with less set back than stock VW?
If you removed leaves to get a softer ride you may need to adjust the ride height to a higher position. If it is lower than before, the shocks may not have been bottoming out. If you want it to set lower ,you may need the shorter shocks.

  • Wow,This would be a rocket ror sure!!! I don’t remember this company.Wonder if they built it with the V=8 or if the conversion was done by an individual? The headers under the fenders are a dead give away that it ain’t your normal MG.I know that the TF is rarer than the TD ,but I just cannot get used to the headlights molded into the fenders. To…[Read more]

  •  Look in Washington Will’s photo gallery ,at the very bottom you can see his  Gazelle in the background behind his TD.
In the VW based section under the post about side mounted spares is a pict of a SS100 Jag.
These pictures should help with the identification of the car in question.

  •  Hi Duk, Thanks for the pictures!!. Your car is the first I’ve seen with sidemount spares. We had a discussion here last week and several of us decided it would not work because of space limitations but your pictures prove us wrong.I guess it goes to show that us ”experts  self proclaimed” don’t know it all after all.Embarrassed Best of luck with your project.

  •  Chuckles, Thanks for the update, Brad Anderson is indeed a nice guy and knows his stuff about TD replicas. I hope the new owners will be as good as he was. I did not realize that they still had molds. Wonder if there are any plans for making replacement fiberglass parts or perhaps a website? Please keep us informed if you find out any details.

  •  Hi and welcome to the forum.
It’s basicly taking a good look to determine what will come off with the body and what will stay on the pan and then disconnecting the wires and cables and anything else that runs from the body to the pan, along with a large number of bolts. The assembly manuals [in the aqua section ],may help, just reverse the…[Read more]

Great car and in my favorite color !! Thanks for sharing it with us and welcome to the gang here. That luggage rack really dresses up the rear of the car.

  •  Allen , This is what you could call general information and is not specific to any particular kit. Some kits use an actual MGTD grille shell which in some cases must be cut [trimed] to fit and some use a grille made by the kit manufacturer. That being said, I can see no reason to trim out the fiberglass panel behind the grille on a VW based car.…[Read more]

  •  Thanks for the quick reply,. Mark [Pink MG] redid the seats and door panels in real leather befor I got the car.The rest of the interior is still in the BCW original carpet material, both the floor and side panels as well as the area bebind the seat. I would like to do it all to match but I’m thinking the leather may be hard to match since it’s…[Read more]

  •  Hi, From the picture of the guages in your photo gallery, I think you have a BCW. Did you not use all of the kit because it would not fit or did you not need to replace all the pieces? I have a BCW and am interested in what you have if it will work in my car but if it will not fit, I would rather someone have it who could use it.

Nice ride!!! I think you really did win the lottery.
Do you know the kit manufacturer? It looks like a FiberFab or Classic Motor Carriage except all those have wider fenders on the front engine models. You may have a rare one indeed.
I can tell from the pictures that you have lots of fun with the car.

  •  Allen, My VW based car has an opening that is about the same size as the wheel [about 15”] . The tire fits tightly against the engine cover and air can circulate thru all the oval holes in the wheel. It would appear that water would also enter thru the holes ,but it has set out in the rain all day and never failed to start. In the original VW,…[Read more]

  •  Allen, I looked at a side view of my car and it appears that the only way to mount the spare on the side would be to cut a deep recess in the fender. Many classic cars used the side mounted spares but most had the recess in the fender which takes away from the overall appearence in my opinion. It looks to me that the Jag fenders extend out from…[Read more]

  •  Thats a great story! I know you are eager for spring to get here. Tell us more about the car. The picture in your photo gallery doesn’t seem to fit the situation. Perhaps you could wake her up long enough to make her picture.

  •  Ed, Thanks for the photos and job description. These jobs seldom turn out to be easy, but you hung in there and got her done even tho you had to shed blood to finish the project. That always adds value and a personal touch to the completed task.

Hi Ray 10, Glad to have you here.
What brand is your kit?.Check out the members photo gallery at the top right of this page and you will see what is possibably the largest batch of TD replicas ever assembled in one place.
The download manuals section  in the aqua section to the left may give you some answers .
Please ask questions ,we enj…[Read more]

  •  Hey Mark, Thanks for the info. My London Roadster had 15” wire baskets with adapters to convert the VW pattern to the 4 3/4” chev . I just could not trust them and went back to VW wheels. You did a good thing when you put the US Steel wheels on the BCW. I see you have upgraded in the trailer department as well. Thanks for posting the…[Read more]

  •  This is somewhat off the subject here, but does anyone know how BCW adapted what appear to be VW wheels to their Chevette based cars?Chevette lugs are on 100mm center and VW on 140mm so it would seem they had to replace the center of the VW wheel [only the area behind the hubcap] or change the stud placement in the drums and rotors. This has…[Read more]

  •  Paul, It’s a hollow victory. I have looked at my London Roadster many times since I got it in 1994 and wondered why they didn’t lengthen the hood by 2 or 3 inches so they could have used a full length grille.I think they were trying to keep the body measurments the same as the original MG or so I’ve heard.A couple of extra inches would also have…[Read more]

  •  Removing the grille shell should not be too difficult, Try to determine what material it is made of and be sure that the plating shop you choose can redo it.
