  •  Tom, Those wheels really set off the car. I know that wire wheels were not original on the TDs but  in my opinion, nothing else looks quite as good. I know they require a lot of work to keep them from rusting but they add an Old English look that I identify with the period that these cars represent.
I checked the Moss Motors site and new ones ar…[Read more]

  •  Allen, Most of the TDs that I remember from the 50s had black wall tires. I’m sure that many owners put white walls on their cars as a ”dress up” item. Back then they were all wide whitewalls, though I have seen some with narrow ones as well.
Look in SunTan Sailer’s photo gallery to see pics of his car with black tires and also with wide w…[Read more]

  •  Hi Dante,You are in a unique situation. While BCWs are among the most desirable [IMHO], they are also rarer and therefore harder to find.I agree that buying a complete car and using what you need  would be the route that you would probably have to take.
Here on the forum is probably ”the place to be” as there are more replica fans and own…[Read more]

  •  It took a while for all this to make sense to me as well, but it finally sunk in.
As you have already said, when you remove leaves to soften the ride ,it also lowers the ride height. This means that the fenders are closer to the wheels. The adjustible beam has adjusters located at the center of the beam that allow you to raise[adjust] the ride…[Read more]

  •  If I am thinking correctly, the flywheel housing on the 283 is somewhat wider than the 2.3 Ford or 1.6 Chev. There is barely enough room for the clutch, brake and accelarator pedals with the small engines so with the V-8 there will be even less space available.. You probably will need to keep both hands on the steering wheel just to hang on with…[Read more]

  •  IMHO it sounds like a balance problem. The exact  placement of the weights can have considerable effect . Some times the weights are all placed on the inside of the wheel for appearance when they should be devided inside and outside to achieve proper balance side to side as well as simply compensating  for a light or heavy area of the tire.

  •  Todd, MG Magic lists a spare tire mounting bracket for about $60.00. It says that you must use one designed for a Chev/Ford kit to cover the hole on the VW kits. They list one for the VW for about $30.00 but I’m thinking it is for the cars that did not have the fake spare tire which may have had a smaller hole in the engine cover.
     I don’t know h…[Read more]

  •  Mel, You just keep on taking the show!!!Good for you!! It makes my heart proud when people stop to look at my car and make nice comments when I am parked beside cars costing thousands more.
A win for you is a win for all of us . We share your joy!

  •  pga64, You are indeed blessed to have a wife who likes to ride. It’s much more fun to be with someone special when doing the things that we enjoy. My wife likes to ride too but her health does not allow her to do so as often as we would like.It also limits the time I have as well.I have only put 2300 miles on my BCW in two years and three…[Read more]

  •  Paul, Thanks for the link to Mark’s BCW trans and other stuff . I thought I had read everything about what’s now my pride and joy but had missed that one. I had tried to explain the clearence issue to OldRoadie but this is much easier to follow since Mark actually did the disassembly and redesigning of the trans mounting plate. •  Thanks for sharing that story. It’s good for familys to stick together and do things together. I’m glad you and your sons had the time together and if it took an old rusty VW chassis to make it happen ,that’s OK too.
I may have spoke too quickly with my advice on gettin a better donor. Since you have the manpower and facilities to repair this o…[Read more]

  •  I agree with BDriver. You might want to consider a different VW donor. It will be a ton of work to rebuild this one as so much of the structural parts are rusted away. I’m also concerned with the Fully Automatic trans. My understanding is they were  only made a couple of years. If you get every thing restored and the trans messes up you are fa…[Read more]

  •  Mark, Check out the TD History in the aqua section to the left. There is a summary of the TD years as well as a short history on replicas as well.
About your title, Many builders simply use the title to the donor car as their replica title. This works untill you get envolved in an accident and the investigating officer says ”This is not a VW o…[Read more]

  •  Dan, You are right about the nuts. Some have nuts, some don’t. Since Bill said his clamped on ,I assumed that he had the type with no nuts. This is beginning to sound like a Mounds/Almond Joy candy commercial. ”Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut, Sometimes You Don’t.LOL

  •  In Washington Will’s photo gallery ,his Daytona MiGi appears to have been removed from the pan with the fenders still attached. Unless the Duchess is designed differently you could probably remove yours at the point you are at now. Just be sure you have every thing disconnected ,be careful not to break any attachment points.

  •  Bill, Most of the time if you  grasp the arm  directly over the post with a pair of pliers and rock back and forth while you pull , they will come off. Some arms have a small spring clip that hooks under the knurled nut that the arm fits to.If your’s has the clip ,use a small screwdriver to pull the clip away from the nut.

  •  Ed, Pink MG’s pics in the second and third row of his gallery are the ones that show the car with the original BCW chassis trans mount and also the mount as Mark redisigned it to allow the complete mount and bracket that attaches it to the chassis to be removed from the bottom of the car.
Apparently BCW installed the engine and trans and THEN a…[Read more]

We are in the Chevy/Ford section now. Click on the blue arrow at the top left of the screen. You will see a list of topics. Look down the list and you will see Chevette transmissions. Several posts down is a post by Pink MG that details the t…[Read more]

  •   Ed, Glad you got it home safely. Now the fun begins for real.!!
Check in the photo gallery at the top right. Look in Pink MG’s gallery for pics of a BCW trans mount with the engine and trans out of the car.
Look at Chevette trans under Chevy/Ford kits section for a detailed explanation of how to remove the trans and rework the mount.

  •  In my opinion, you do not need the seat tracks. Your seats will sit on either bases or frames that are supplied by the kit manufacturer. If yours are missing ,they can be made from treated lumber and covered with carpet.
