Larry Murphy replied to the topic MG TD or MGB? in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 10 months ago
Paul, That car looks like a very early MiGi to me .Notice the bumps do not extend the entire width of the fender/running board as they do on the CR Duchess. It also has a rounded top engine cover that I think only the early MiGis used.
Your comment on the side curtains was much more complimentary than my would have been. -

A friend is a good thing to have!! A friend with a truck who is willing to help you is a great thing to have!!. You are doing good . Better to haul it home and then fix what you find needs attention than to lose your investment ,a rare car and possibly your life by taking chances when you know that there are problems before you begin the…[Read more]

Has anyone heard from Pink MG? I haven’t seen anything on the forum lately . I know his retirement is near and lots of other things going on but I remember seeing on the news that Monmouth County was having problems from the storm.

Bill, I can’t say for sure, but all the ones that I have seen with the Schweppes badges were yellow with tan tops. Come to think of it ,every BCW that I can remember had a tan top and interior.

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Upholstery Help in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 10 months ago
Hi Mark, Your signature says MGTD VW. I don’t think a Moss interior upholstry kit will fit your car.One of our members tried to use a Moss kit in his British Coach Works car and was only able to use the seat cover part of the kit. Most replicas use carpet material on the side panels and the area behind the seats and vinyl material on the seats…[Read more]

Hi and welcome to the forum!! Sounds like you’ve found a real prize. The BCW is a quality repilca and being one of the Schweppes cars is something special. The advice on bleeding the brakes is something I would do for sure. You don’t want to lose this one on the way home.
Have a safe trip and be sure to post pictures when you can. -
Larry Murphy replied to the topic New Top for Winston in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 10 months ago
Ed, I thru the patterns away after the shop finished the curtains. I just held cardboard up to the car and traced out the size , Every BCW i’ve seen has a slightly differrent top so you should need to make your own.

Tom, Sounds reasonable to me. I paid $200. just for side curtains. I made patterns out of cardboard with the windows cut out. I fitted the snaps that attach to the body and the velcro that attaches to the top myself. All the shop had to do was cut the material to match my pattern and sew a hem arround the outer edge and the window.
The guy did a…[Read more] -
Larry Murphy replied to the topic Bumper Question in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 10 months ago
Just my ”humble” opinion, The bumpers on most of these cars are attached to brackets made of flat bar stock . On VW based cars the brackets extend past the engine to connect to the rear suspension. This leads me to believe that almost any type back bar would be as strong as the bracket to which the bumpers are attached. This is not to say tha…[Read more]

The car in Conroe looks like a British Coach Works to me. These are among the better quality kits . Fold down windshield, thicker fiberglass than other brands. Just may be worth looking into even in the heat.

I agree with everyone who is advising you to to the work yourself! The radio and seat belt prices are clear indicators that you are getting overcharged both for parts and labor. If you shop around, you’ll be amazed at how much you can save ,not to mention the satisfaction gained by being able to say that you did it yourself.

If you are referring to the socket that holds the bulb and fits into the back of the gauge, most parts stores will have those as well. Carry one of the gauges with you to get the correct size socket .

I checked MG Magic’s price list and they are $42.50 each. Making your own from scrap iron would be cheaper, just a matter of getting the holes in the correct places.

Allen, It can’t be Gerd’s car. His TD has the headlights mounted only to the grille shell which is shorter than most MGs. Also the top on Gerd’s car has quarter windows and I think I see VW suspension also.
I think Gerd’s is a Daytona MiGi and the one for sale is a CMC or FiberFab. Larry Murphy40773.8275925926 -

MG Magic had them ”on sale” a few months ago but I cannot find them on their parts list now. I think they were $88.00 then. Might be worth a call to find out.

Thanks Paul, I was hoping that I was not too far off. The kit car industry changed so much and so fast that it is hard to keep the facts seperate from the rumors.

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Bumper Question in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 10 months ago
Allen, The back bar should reach almost the length of the bumper ,from outer bolt hole to outer bolt hole.
