Thought that comes to my sometimes optimistic mind: Fun and exciting!

    ๐Ÿ˜‰
And all’s well that ends well enough.

Thinking that’s the same VW heating mine uses, exactly like that. Vent tubes exit from under seat fronts, outer sides. I was pleasantly surprised how it can help on cooler days once the engine is nice and hot. With top down the wind really stirs it up while moving along and loses that “heat” feeling but I like that it’s there if I want it.

    Yes, bulb is right.
Don’t know what “case” is, sorry. Battery itself or the compartment holding it, or bulb case? Battery positive shouldn’t have continuity except to ground or along wiring circuit.
Guessing you meant bulb holder; if…

Going to be thousandths of inch, or mil, so 40 gauge is 0.040″.

I think you could use down to 20 gauge, but looking now at what other cars have it might be more like 40. Maybe someone knows what’s usually used.
BTW, although I don’t know anything about these convertible tops and their windows, I wouldn’t expect the removal of old vinyl and reinstall…

Ouch! Hadn’t thought of them being that brittle, maybe partly from age…?

I have relatives in the upholstery biz that do stuff for boats and autos and I think it should be an easy repair, as was said.
I like the zipper idea, but could be trouble in rain if not done right. Mine does some leaking through the stitching anyhow, not enough to worry me.

Great work on that! I guess it’s like the old saying, necessity is the mother of invention. Those Ford taillights go very well with it.

Yep, sure is. The interest from people can be surprising. I think it might have been an older teen or young adult who shouted Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and I didn’t know if that was a compliment or not!

Wouldn’t have imagined the front wheels could reach that far forward. Looking back to your pictures I can see how the bumper does appear farther forward, although slightly. And how the tread of the back tires looks directly under the edge of the fender, outer portions of tire going farther outward than that.

Like you say, probably not significant…

I can really agree on that now, but maybe not when I was a kid during the 1960’s. Cars of that time had to be futuristic, in other words like the Corvette Stingray (esp. circa ’70) for me to give them any attention back then.
The Jaguar, pictured above there, would have been included in my short list of…

You’ve reminded me that I was going to say this before. The pair of speakers in my car are in the under-seat compartments, facing frontward. I think they’re either 4X6 or round 6″, I would need to look again to be sure but there’s definitely room in there for speakers.

I just saw that model of Jaguar (right side) on TV today, was Chrome Underground on Discovery Channel. A collection of cars being restored in Brazilian jungle.

When I checked about insuring through Hagerty it would have cost something around 1/3 more than State Farm. Just agreed on an insured value of $6000. History shows that accidents only get me every 10 years, last being a few years ago, so I’m not too worried… yet.

  • Bob replied to the topic New Owner with Basic Questions in the forum Car Registry 10 years ago

Don’t do what I did, which was replace the alternator belt (guessing yours might not be generator) and got the pulley nut tightness wrong. Tore the pulley off the shaft because I thought the noise was engine knock or pinging. Torque spec on that nut is 43 ft lbs.

Engine timing needed adjusting on mine so you will probably want to at least check…

That’s a sweet look for your car!

Hmm, it would cost me around $1080 for a set, or $1300 including spare. About 1/5 to 1/4 what I paid for my car. Not for me. Maybe something to consider after a few years anyhow to keep its value up.
I would be happy with John Barry’s wheels if my chromed plastic spokes don’t last long.
  • Bob replied to the topic why I got a TDr in the forum General Discussion 10 years ago

Reminds me of last month at a gathering of British cars. The 78 year old owner told me about a drive he made with a few others years ago and when his fuel pump quit working he used an emergency hand-pump bulb line that was said to be an accessory. Pressurizes the tank to force out gasoline as needed, attaches to tank at fill hole with air-tight…[Read more]

Okay, I figured it was just the way it looked so close together in the picture. And that you would have realized otherwise anyhow.

  • I was thinking “rat rod” might be debatable since it looks like what I think of as a hot rod, except for not seeing a big engine poking out.

And before I saw the red one I wondered if it would actually look better without the rear fenders, which does work well for that red one with the modified back end and its wide wheels.
