Yeah…what happened? Larry Murphy and I were wondering about that when I was in NC a few weeks ago?

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Problems, problems in the forum General Discussion 16 years, 1 month ago
Dan R probably has most of the solution. These Chevette radiators are very small and require a “focused” amount of air passing through them. The fan is pretty far away too. Making a shroud will GREATLY improve the cooling. I love the 5 gallon bucket idea.
Another cooling fan idea is a shrouded electric fan mounted in the “puller” position. A…[Read more] -

Does the speedo have “dip” switches? or is it digital (electronic) odometer and analog (needle) mph indicator?
I set all my Autometer electronic speedo’s like Paul suggests. I go to a local divided highway when the traffic is light and stop at the same mile marker every time. Then I drive the 2 miles at a constant speed and stop after two miles a…[Read more] -

Don, I moved this post to a new topic.
Where are you located?…and we’ll try to zero in on a reputable local VW shop.
There are several online vendors of real reproduction and NOS MG-TD parts for sprucing up the trim. Moss Motors and Victoria British are two. They are not cheap.
Luckily, there are MANY air cooled VW vendors online, Peek P…[Read more] -

How about the pump/reservoir and other parts? Are they NAPA reman too?
Follow Rob’s advice first. Do it with the wheels off the ground. There may be some air or debris in the system. -

There is not supposed to be anything shipped with oil, fuel, etc. in it. It’s considered hazardous by most US laws.
Sounds like the proportioning valve in the rack has issues. Where did you get the parts? Are they used, new, rebuilt? A mix of all three?Pink MG39977.0009259259 -

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Ford 2.3 weight in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 16 years, 1 month ago
The curb weight is easy to get at any public scale. Most recylcer’s have drive-on scales.
To determine the weight distribution accurately, you’d need to “scale” the car on a set of 4 scales, one under each wheel. You know, the way race cars are set up. If you have a local oval bull ring, one of the regular racers may be able to help you out. They…[Read more] -

Bigger brakes is not a bad idea. Luckily there are many larger front brake upgrades available to fit the Pinto spindles. My 1940 Ford uses the Pinto spindles, 11″ Ford Granada/Lincoln Versailles rotors and ’78-83 GM “G” body metric calipers (Monte Carlo, Regal, Cutlass, Grand Prix).
If you are using the little 6.75″ rear in the car, that’s another…[Read more] -

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Lift Kit to install in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 16 years, 2 months ago
As Rob noted, Sagging or drooping suspensions are NEVER caused by a standard style shock absorber. The shock is there to dampen spring oscillation and keep the tire glued to the pavement (or dirt).
If a car’s frame or uni-body is straight and square and all the suspension components (a-arms, links etc.) are straight as well, then only the spring…[Read more] -

Do you think that the Chevette rear suspension was designed to eliminate wheel-hop under their “stuck to seat back” acceleration and “bug on the inside of the windshield” braking?
My Mustang stil has the open aluminum driveshaft. I had to install frame connectors and a special crossmember that goes between them. The front of the torque arm…[Read more] -

If I am doing a repair or service that is not an emergency, I always buy from this site. NO ONE beats their prices and they usually carry several name brand vendors for each part.
I have also found that they carry many older cars parts that fit the Chevette, Ford and VW based cars we have.
To date, I’ve never had a problem with the parts,…[Read more] - Load More
