Paul Mossberg replied to the topic wire wheels in the forum VW Parts Wanted 14 years, 5 months ago
Real wires are expensive!!!
$2,000 for a set of four is not unreasonable.
Dayton used to make a 52 spoke wire wheel for the VW four bolt pattern. I believe 52 is the correct number for the OPTIONAL original TD wires.
Some time ago, I was speaking with TrueSpoke about a run of wire wheels for the VW four bolt pattern. I had been quoted $1,700 to…[Read more] -

That’s going to be a nice looking car when you are done dbrock.
I’m not sure what it is. But it looks VERY authentic, the proper folding hood, folding windshield frame. Nice!
The fittings at the top of the windshield frame have me thinking this car uses an original style roof. Does it?
And a hint for your son, add a couple line breaks between the…[Read more] -

I hesitate to even suggest these.
I believe they will work, as they appear to follow the contour of the windsield frame on my Duchess. But Lord Almighty, these are pricey!

I also think they will interfere with the side curtains.
I’m sure my Duchess has the brackets you are…[Read more] -

Thanks Ray.
I retested the link in Ed’s post. It worked once, failed once. Not sure what is going on.
If the link fails for you, just click on the error page to go to http://www.nytimes.com and click “obituaries” in the left column -

At the 2010 Amelia Island Concours, I spent a delightful 20 minutes with Mr. Davis, just the two of us, wandering around the cars consigned to the auction. He was able to talk about every car we stopped at.
One of those chance encounters that made for a memorable experience! -

Hi Alexs….At the bottom of the Download Manuals section (click the link in the left side bar) are the schematics for a VW based Classic Roadsters TD.These are the most complete wiring diagrams you will find. And while not specifically for the MP Lafer I am confident they will work for you.

I’m on board with the new tires being the first step!First, because those tires are probably way past their useful life, even if they have tread left.Second, a radial tire, sitting flat, will DEFINITELY be flat spotted (and no pun intended). and I doubt any amount of running will round it out again. even a properly inflated radial will develop a…[Read more]

Electrical problems are so much fun to track down.Fuse….I doubt it…bad fuse would mean no power at all.Relay…probably not…relays are used for the turn-signals/flashers and the high-beams. Would seem if they went bad, they just would not workPossibly bad headlight switch, allowing power to leak through even tho you think it is off…[Read more]
