OK, let’s not laugh at carrying bailing wire.
The full story will take too long to tell here. But the short version is: Years ago, my wife (at the time) and I, and a family of four whom we had just met in an airport, ended up in a VW Micro Bus taxi, traveling across Mexico from Guadalajara to Manzanillo. Trust me, there are no highways!

Glad you sorted it out Jack!
Keeping a spare distributor in the car might be overkill. But I definitely recommend anyone with an “in distributor” electronic ignition module to carry points, condenser and rotor.
Swapping those parts in takes just a few minutes on the side of the road. Set the gap and you’re back on the road. If you have to swap…[Read more]

Stephen,
You wrote we can still reference photos form the old gallery in new posts.
Where do we find the “old” gallery and our own folders in that gallery?

Well, well, well.
If you had only waited a couple weeks, you could have picked up an original 1931 Type 51 for only $4 million! I bet you feel pretty silly now! 😀

Ebay, Craigslist are likely your best sources.
Moss Motors shows them as not available.
Here is one complete windshield…

Oh … and as to the IM lap of luxury … true that!
I may not even need a heavy coat and gloves when I leave home. Just turn on the heated seats and blast the warm air!

Damn, Ed’s commentary may have pushed me over the edge.
If I leave home at 6 a.m., I can have beautiful Polish exchange students serving me drinks by 12:30 … without all you knuckleheads distracting them!
Of course you may have to pick me up off the floor when you arrive at 4. Or just leave me there.

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic VW Oil Change — Special Conditions in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 2 months ago
I’d stay with 10/30. VW engines have a by-pass pressure valve for oil flow. I’ve red the 20/50 is too heavy when cold, causes a high pressure situation and triggers the by-pass valve when you really don;t want it triggered.
Re: your oil lines….I’d fill the engine with the normal 2.5 quarts. Run it for a minute to get it circulating. Then check…[Read more]

Thanks for the analysis Bill! 🙂
We have time to work this out, but…
West Lawn is one hour and fifteen minutes from home. Add in the eight hours you estimate and that means well over nine hours on the road. If I drive the most direct route from home, it’s just over six hours. That’s a big difference.
I may decide to drive the direct route.

Bill…
How early were you suggesting meeting? And where did we meet last time? Two years is too long ago for my feeble memory.
The drive straight from my house by the shortest highway route is just over six hours via the bay bridge/tunnel route (I-476 to I-95 to DE-1 to US-113 S and US-13 S to 30th St in Virginia Beach, the bay/bridge tunnel…[Read more]
