From the looks of that chassis and the potential for it to be under an MD TDr body…
…I can’t help but wonder if the engine on the dolly is intended for the lawnmower! 😀 -

Welcome aboard Tom.
I guess my posting instructions helped, eh?You can keep watching ebay and craigslist for unbuilt kits. But I would recommend you follow Roy’s advice and check the measurements. The MG TD kits expect a Type 1 (Beetle) wheelbase of 94.5, and a track of about 54-55 inches. Any deviations from that will be difficult to accommodate. -

I find several references to those, but they were all old posts, circa

One additional comment…We are not really talking about “chassis flex” here. It’s more like “body flex.”You can cut the floor pans away from a VW chassis and she’ll sit there as level as always. The problem is lifting the car at the stock jack points. The stock pans have the benefit of an all steel body bolted on. That adds a lot of strength, so…[Read more]

Yes, you need a floor jack. Scissor jack is the second choice.Safest jack points are at 1 and 32 shows the stock jack points, but you won’t find the “socket” shown in the diagram. That got cut off. When we write to lift the car at the rear torsion bars (3 in the diagram), here’s what we mean. Lift it where the jack stands are shown in this picture.…[Read more]

LHR, your impression is correct. The VW Beetle chassis, wheel base and
all, is left unchanged for these kit cars. You know, old bug body
pulled off, new kit body put on. -

Ditto everything Dale (schu) wrote. The TD replica is a different animal than a speedster.I usually jack my TDr as Dale suggests. But on occasion I have jacked it up at the “stock” rear jack mounts and have not had a problem.

VW Type 1 wheelbase – 94.5 inchesMG TD wheelbase – 94 inchesI’d say that’s pretty close! You’d see more difference in a head on shot:VW Beetle track: 54.3 front, 53.2 rearMG TD track: 47.2 front, 50 rear

Hmmm…Did Allen mean
“Eat and enjoy family members….” or”Eat, and enjoy family members….”??
I guess that is the Thanksgiving version of “Let’s eat grandma” vs. “Let’s eat, Grandma”

Hi Andy,
VW based, correct?
Odd, the usual complaint is a car riding too high in the front.
Do you have an adjustable beam front end? An adjustable beam will have something like this wlded into the center of each tursion tube:If you do, it’s a simple amtter of taking the weight off the front end, loosening the lock bolt, shifting the adjustor… - Load More
