scubasteve replied to the topic BRAKES LOCK UP in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 1 month ago
There are many informative and helpful videos on YouTube. I just search the subject I want to learn about. For your situation, I entered “air cooled vw brake” and it came up with over 5 different people showing how to do everything from inspecting to actually replacing the brakes. You can also google(or in my case Bing) “air cooled vw brake” and,…[Read more]

I had a girl come up to me and ask if she could have my car. I asked her if she could drive a manual transmission. She said no. So I told her, “Then I can’t give you my car. Because it has a manual transmission!”

Glad you got it all sorted. 😀                                                                                            I know how confusing tire sizing and pressures can be 😕 . When I purchased wire wheels for my London Roadster, I went with t…[Read more]

“Go Withs” are always cool to get hold of. They are specially nice items if you take your car to shows. I have a few. Framed and placed around the car they make a nice display and add to the overall presentation.

About my ’71 air cooled VW.
I recently completed an entire tune up; coil, distributor cap and rotor, points and condenser, plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil change, gaps, timing, the works.
Everything is running like a German watch, except…COLD start is first time, idles at 900rpm when warm but restarting the warm engine is VERY sluggish…seems…[Read more]

Looks sort of like what the Allies attached to the front of the Sherman tanks in WWII to tear through the hedge rows in France after D-Day. Cut through them no problem.
You seam to be a VERY talented guy with the spanners and welders!

Just for grins and giggles, I am wanting to bypass the “start” function on the key and wire in a starter button instead. I have looked on YouTube and seen several different ways of doing it; going straight from the battery, through a switch then to the starter motor; going from the solenoid HOT side, through a switch to the battery; going from the…[Read more]

Like the guy says in the commercial,”WOW I could’ve had a V8!” And I was short only $1,400,000 and it could have been MINE! 😆

Thanks for the info! I recently replaced almost the entire ignition system(it needed it anyway) thinking my stalling issue was an electric issue, but was still stalling out at low rpm’s. I began thinking in the fuel direction and after reading the linked site, I’m looking at that being the culprit.
I remember in days gone by, stations of ill…[Read more]

THANKS for the link! According to the info, mine is an exchange engine of unknown origin. It makes it difficult when ordering parts, but again since so many parts are the same across the years, other than the electronic ignition, I’ve not had much trouble.
This is why I LOVE this place!!!

I live in Illinois, so visiting Blodget’s Bug Barn in person is out, but I Googled them and found their site. They seem very highly rated. Thanks for the info.

I agree. Nice car.I like the two tone look and the luggage rack. Good price to boot. He shouldn’t have much trouble selling it. May still be a little early in the season yet, but in a few more weeks it’ll be convertible season.

I’ve been going through very similar agony myself in the last few days. My local VW mechanic has been suggesting for the last few months I should change from the old style points to electronic ignition. I purchased a total ignition overhaul kit; coil, distributor cap, rotor, wires, plugs ANDÂ Compu-tronix (formerly Pertronix)electronic ignition…[Read more]
