Just a straight bit 1/4 inch. I think the secret was to drill 1/4 inch holes at the top and bottom. Drilling first allows you to keep the holes at the same height so louvers will all be same height. Place the router and bit in the top and bottom holes to set the guide. I did not use tape because the tape would make it hard to see if you hav…[Read more]

Guides were just two straight edges held by clamps. Router edges follow the guides. I used a straight router. First I used just one guide, but I found that I would move away from guide at times. So needed two guides to stay straight. Just remembered. I drilled holes at either end of louver first, then placed router bit in top hole and set g…[Read more]

Original 1952 MGTD with punched louvers in metal hood. Posted so you could get an idea of what louvers would look like on top of hood. I had considered grafting metal louvers into my replica fiberglass hood. But I would be glad to have you do it first and let us see how well it turns out.
I used a router and guides to cut out the louvers in my…[Read more]

Save the money. The louvers look fine. Maybe consider adding aluminum louvers to top of hood.

Bill, can you explain stamping louvers in fiberglass? I removed my side panels and used a router with guides to cut out the vents in my hood. I would like to have vents in my top panels also, but have not found something I like yet.

That is one big electric fan! By the way, I used a router and open all the fake vents in my hood sides. It worked pretty well and the engine seems to run cooler. Or at least I think it does.

He has the long side brackets, but I am sure he would buy lazy T brackets to do a conversion. Perhaps we should take this off line or start a new thread. A close picture of your bracket conversion would be appreciated. Thanks. ricrx7@aol.com

That sounds like a great deal. Especially with the fold down windshield and wire wheels. Reliability sounds good too.
Roy – I have a friend with a Fiberfab who really wants a folding windshield. How did you get yours? Modification of an original? Thanks. Ric

I have a 1986 BCW Type 52 which is a very good replica of the 1952 MGTD. And I also have an original 1952 MGTD. It is the original that is for sale. I have put too much money and time into the BCW to sell it now. The original is not all original as it has a Volvo engine and transmission which solves the MGTD drivability issues. It can be boug…[Read more]

Instead of a 3.4 I went with a 2.8 that a friend had just rebuilt. Also, crate 3.4 is no longer available. Anyway, I have some hesitation with my 390 holley. Do you remember what jets and what accel pump you have in your 390? Thanks.

In another post, Travis asked how I routed the hood sides. I drilled a 5/16 hole at the top and bottom of each vent in the depressed area. I used a guide at the top (and bottom) to align the holes. I clamped a guide for the routed by placing the router in a hole and moving the guide to the edge of the router. Then just moved router from top…[Read more]
