Yeah,.. I have done some painting in the past with a smaller compressor and I knew I would need more “umph” to let me switch to HVLP. I also knew that the “pot” time with the 2 part paints wouldn’t let me play catch up like I used to do with the small compressor and single stage paints. Plus, when I tried to use my DA sander I swear I hear…[Read more]

Welcome to the group!
I tried to find matching volt gauge, marked “Dynamo” that I had seen in the past. No luck. I haven’t seen the British type labled guages for sale new, so MG magic may be your best bet. At one time Sacramento Vintage Ford had the sets. Their new catalog doesn’t show them anymore but it might be worth a call at 1-88…[Read more] -
Steve Crites replied to the topic vibration in drive train chevette in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 14 years ago
Since the Chevette uses a torque tube drive the rear mount is extra sensitive to being bolted exactly centered. If you’ve had it out and are replacing it, recheck the centering of the u-joint to the rear yoke. You may have to shift it a little, tighten, test drive, move it in or out, tighten, test drive, repeat. If that doesn’t help, check the b…[Read more]

Steve Crites replied to the topic Side View Mirror Visibility in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years ago
I had fender mirrors at one time, I can see the patch job. My post cover mount mirrors with the MG dash mirror work well for me, but I also keep my head on a swivel. Looking all around is one of the best reasons to not put the top up.

Beautiful work as always. Your attention to detail always shows.
Best looking cover I’ve seen! Did you use the original body snaps?

Donna, follow Paul’s advice and get the book by John Muir for sure. It will make you feel much better about the mysteries of what is really a fantastic engine.I’ve had 4 VWs over many years and they didn’t leave me stranded any more than other cars. In this day of cell phones, being on the side of the road is sometimes part of the adventure w…[Read more]

Steve Crites replied to the topic Side Body Union Jack Emblem in the forum General Discussion 14 years ago
Recent example of why I’m kinda worried about our future.
At the drive-in window of Taco Hell, the girl at the window pointed directly at the Union Jack emblem and said “Oh,…. that’s cute! I didn’t know the Japanese made those…….”
I laughed, then I wept…..

Steve Crites replied to the topic Side Body Union Jack Emblem in the forum General Discussion 14 years ago
Gang, my duchess has ’em on both sides. There is a spot where the “louvers” pull up shorter than the others and it’s the exact size for the union jack. If not the jack, then I don’t know what would have gone there, but it would look incomplete without them. Check out the first photo in my gallery. (you will need to click on it to enlarge…[Read more]

Steve Crites replied to the topic I need help choosing a car in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 14 years, 1 month ago
Donna,
I got a Duchess Ford cause I love the style and didn’t want the problems of a real one. Much easier to keep running. If the car was assembled right it will handle like a go-kart on back roads and run like stink when wound up. However, the fenders, (wings) can actually act like wings at too high a speed. Is 75mph too high? It is for m…[Read more] -

Thanks so much for keeping on top of this Paul.
I know this club means too much to all of us to let it get dropped. I remember a few years ago when the site dropped off for awhile. Talk about me panicking! I just hope Frank is okay and doing well. It would be great to hear from him so we don’t worry about him. -

Glad ya’ll are okay. That’s a good thing about VWs, when they blow, they don’t spray oil on the back tires at 60mph.
And, FWIW, I vote go 1641cc. bigger has to be better, right? - Load More
