The bleeding is always the hardest part – try it the normal way first and make sure you bench bleed the master cyl or you will be sorry. If you cannot make it work let me know and I can show you how to make a cheap pressure blessed that works great and you can do the job yourself. I tried to bleed for hours unfilled I went this route and 10…[Read more]

Master cylinder replacement can be tricky, depending on how the car is designed. Mine has a void beyond the pedal cluster but behind the firewall. I sawed an access hole to get at the push rod to adjust. I could have removed the gas tank but thought my way would be easier. The master cylinder itself should be pretty visible and accessible. Two…[Read more]

Gotta love a girl with a sense of humor about herself. There is a solution to the dilemma: repaint the car.

You may be suffering from the dread TOMAV syndrome. (Too much advice.) I like the lawnmower tank best because it has a small hose fitting on the BOTTOM and often a shutoff valve also. Using the lawnmower tank, if you mount it above the carb, then you can run a piece of rubber hose to hook up the lawnmower tank DIRECTLY into the gas inlet on th…[Read more]

Gabor’s right. It’ll work. I’ve done it a few times. If you have access to an old cement mixer, you can put the tank inside it, or tie it to the outside. Secure it so that the outside of the tank doesn’t get all beat up. Put gravel, (the type with sharp edges works best) in it and let it run. It’ll make the tank extra clean inside. You,…[Read more]

If I lived just a bit closer, I would give you $1200 and be glad to take your car for parts. A bargain. Smile, be happy!

Hey guys, this is from my earlier post in this thread:
I highly recommend not throwing the old lawnmower away without doing this first.“I have a small fuel tank off an old lawnmower that I use when starting an old engine. I know that I am getting good fuel to the carb.”The smaller the tank the better. Put a 3 or so foot piece of hose on the… -

Look at your other thread. Before starting this engine I’d do a few nice things for it, starting with a few drops of oil in the plug holes and a hand crank-over.
I guess if you’ve been cranking it that’s moot.Did you douse your carb with gumout or similar? Cause it’s probably about as full of varnish as the tank was. -

Little bleach on the seats, followed by some armor-all.
Empty the fuel tank and clean it. Water’s fine–it’ll dry, but I’d use about two cans of starter fluid. Spray it in and dump it out. It evaporates in about two minutes.See other post re getting her started. This won’t take all that much. Replace the coil. New points and condenser. P… -

Was the line full of gas?
I ask because I think the “gravity feed” part of the equation means you need to have gas in the fuel pump (or at least right up to it) for the pump to work. Before you replace (and it’s an easy, cheap replacement, so don’t worry) unplug the line that goes into the fuel pump from the tank. set it lower than the pump inlet… -

I think the gaskets come with the mirrors? Anyway, x2 on the Moss ones. Not too expensive and they’re right. They work.If you decide you need something more conventional & modern-like, check back. There are cheapish motor cycle mirrors that can be mated to the windshield bracket with a single nut and a washer. Looks pukka & like 1/8 the price of…[Read more]
