Jeff,
Nice job! Looks great. Sorry I missed you this year at Carlisle – hope you get it done this winter. My 1641 is still going great and I think is sized about right for the TD – it has dual Kadrons which I set a year ago April before last years Carlisle and have not touched the engine other then oil change and valve adjustments. 5,000 kms since…[Read more] -

Steve,
Don’t know London Roadster kit’s, but more than likely it has the std VW torsion tube ( 2 tubes ) front end. Check some of the forums here and find the one that discribes how to remove the small torsion bars from the upper and lower tubes. It takes maybe 4 hours w/ some sweat and a bit of yelling, but you can do it. I did it myself and…[Read more] -

I had a good time as well, but the weather was rough – only drive we had was on Thursday night to the Caddy Shack before Paul got there.
I was directed to the back of the bus so to speak as they did not want the TD in the Speedster pictures as we drove to dinner – I do have a drive video of that if I can figure how to edit and post.
It was fun…[Read more] -

Dale Schumacher replied to the topic Front end weight – VW based TD in the forum General Discussion 17 years, 5 months ago
Mark,
I have followed your instructions w/ the beam etc. – been there did that – I think Dave was just saying the front end felt light a high speeds. When I added the weight up front it was all stuff I wanted to do anyway and it helped keep the front down at speed – mine feels quite good at most any speed. The skidding I feel sometimes in front is…[Read more] -

Phil,
Where are you at in VA? It would be nice to have someone else close by w/ a TD. I live in Stafford VA -
Dale Schumacher replied to the topic Front end weight – VW based TD in the forum General Discussion 17 years, 6 months ago
Dave,
Make sure you have the battery up front. I also added a nice storage area up front and filled it w/ everything I need for a long trip – Jack, tools, replacement parts etc. It seems good now. Sometimes when I brake hard ( discs up front ) it slids, so maybe it still is a bit light.
Some people are using a area in the front of that storage and…[Read more] -

Yes
Thats the plan right now or I may head out west and catch a group of speedsters from the south and go up w/ them on the Thursday before. I do have the option to tow as well. A friend maybe going as well and he might follow in my tow car as a backup. Lots of options at this point. You have something in mind?

Very sorry to hear
I always wished I belonged to such a club or had one around here, but no such thing. To bad people don’t realize it till it’s gone.
I joined a local car club – mostly all US muscle cars – they put up w/ me coming, but I think they wish it was a ” real car”. My only saving grace is the many US hot rods now made of fiberglass that…[Read more] -

Bill,
You could try what I did – order the adjustable coilover shocks from J C Whitney and try them first before you go farther – it worked for me. You can send them back and replace w/ the other type if it does not work out – give it a shot.
Pink –
Is there any adjustment side to side on the front end ?- mine works great now that the one side is…[Read more] -

Bill,
The way I did mine was to make sure the grub screw on the other side and middle was out than stack the bars the way they came out and use light wire to wrap them and keep them stacked – then just grease and install them as they came out – worked for me.

Paul,
Glad your going to make it! Are you driving the TD this year or are you now into speedsters? I was hoping to scare up a bunch of TD’s and do a few things of our own this year. Being the only TD w/ a bunch of speedsters was fun, but I think they got a little tired of me hanging around. I may have to be a right seater w/ them this year on the…[Read more] -

Bill,
I replaced my front drums w/ disc’s this last Fall. Not to hard – make sure you bleed the system well – a pressure system works best. The change helped my car a lot. Why are you going hydraulic? The system w/ the disc’s works great. If you are on a 73 It should have a dual MC in it and should work fine – just bleed well. I think all the…[Read more] -

Sorry I have been so long – I was trying to find the lights I have on the JC Witney site, but can’t seem to find them now.
I will dig them up out of my garage and get the brand name and try to find them on their site that way. Let you know soon.

Falcon,
I was able to get them from JC Wittney at a very good price.
They had clear driving lights ( the ones I used ) and yellow fog lights that were the same size and depth. I liked them because of the price and were very thin so they did not hit the badge bar.
I think I may still have the two yellow lights as I never sent them back after…[Read more] -

Jeff,
I had the Red MG TD next to you at Carlisle – I will check mine for the tank question, but I am almost sure the tank on my rig had the neck cut down and welded back on by the original builder to provide the needed clearance on the hood lid. I will take a look and see how the bottom section was done and get back to you.
The fuse box in my car…[Read more] -
