KentT, can you define a light coat? Is that just a dusting of the high temp flat black so that you can still see the metal thru the paint or is it a coating with just enough paint to cover the metal surface? Thanks.Sam

Ok. I tried Roy’s suggestion as outlined above to bypass all wiring and jump directly from a battery to the starter and the starter still did the slow drag so off to Auto Zone to get one of their rebuilt starters for $40 and installed it. It now turns over normally and starts. Sam

I went thru the timing issue when I first got the car. I’m going to try Roy’s suggestion now that I know I have a good battery that is fully charged. Will let you know how it turns out.Sam

Well…. I have a similar problem to Greg’s only my car doesn’t have to be hot. When I start it, it turns a couple of times(but slowly) and then kicks right off. I can let it run just a few seconds (probably less than 30 secs) rev the engine a few times during that time and then shut it down. Then when I try to restart it, it really turns over…[Read more]

I took my tires off to paint the rims and when I called to see if Wal Mart would remount the tires and balance them, they said no as I did not buy the tires from them. I later ordered a new spare tire from Wal Mart and took the rim with me when the tire arrived at the store and they mounted and balanced it …no problem.

Re the vent hose….I have the hose, just haven’t installed it yet. The PO has carpeting in the front area and I’m looking at how best to route the vent hose without having to tear out the carpet. I was so glad to get the new tank installed and checked out that I didn’t jump on the vent hose right away. You all know how these projects go, it is…[Read more]

I finally got the new gas tank installed today and was able to drive the car for the first time since adjusting the tire pressures. Yes, it is a much better ride. Thanks again for setting me straight.

Just read an article in HOT VW’s Mag about this pub and the guy that wrote it. Early copies are collector items now and supposed to be valuable (they didn’t say how valuable). Guess I better get me a copy.
