My donor chassis is (or was… I might say) a 1972. The P.O. saved most everything needed to complete my build, but the gas tank leaves much to be desired. The cost to clean and seal what I have along with trying to relocate the filler neck (not to mention buying the correct neck with cap) is way too cost prohibited!

An auto trim shop or awning repair shop should be able to sew a support patch on the inside of the top so you can re-set your snap. The only thing you would see on the outside is the thread from the sewing.

So, I was out in the garage taking s few pictures for “newkitman” and I decided since my toes were already numb, I’d dig out my trim tings and put them on the car just to see what they would look like. Mind you… I will either get an MG emblem for the caps or get the smoothies…Any opinions? Thanks!

Ya, I’m gonna go the powder coat road for this one. I have done the paint route many times in the past, and just never felt pleased with the results.
A good blast and powder coat is the way I think it will look best. I was hoping I could find rims like the 14 inches bus rims with the round holes in the rim, but they are narrow five bolt… an… -

No, I have a thin S.S. trim ring set that only covers the outer rim. I’ll try to fins a picture of my Superbeetle with them prior to switching to Sprintstars.

I bought a “bolt-on” disk brake set for my 72 Super. It was much easier than going the full route… Whatever kit you buy, make sure you can buy the replacement pads several years down the road…my .02

Allen, If memory serves me correctly… Late 70’s “Fiberfab” models had a separate piece in the front of the grill that connected the two fenders. Our models have the fenders that connect in front of the grill, omitting the need for the extra piece of fiberglass. (I believe that model also had the exposed steering column…)(glass against…[Read more]

I would think VERY hard and long before using the chassis tunnel to run your heat! If you think about the 1st place to “rust out” on a Beetle… the heat channels come to mind.
The tunnel is the backbone of the VW chassis and where it gets all of its strength. A cold tunnel and heat from the engine will create condensate and cause rust ove… -

I know this is kinda far fetched… but I thought I might try to use a defrost tube from a VW Thing to add defrost to the front end of my MiGiII. The tube hugs the center channel of the chassis since the VW Thing has no side heat channels on the body. Not quite sure how it will work since the shifter has been moved, and the seats hug the c…[Read more]

Just got off the phone with the guy I use for my Auto Glass needs. He said the quality of vinyl used for rag tops is actually certified for automotive use where as the vinyl used in boat tops is not. He did not know if this was a federal regulation or a state regulation.
He stated that boats use a thinner vinyl because the panels are much la… - Load More
