It’s nothing I could ever hope to attempt or achieve, but I can certainly sit here and applaud in awe.
Excellent work, Rocky! -

Hey, guys. My night job may be copy editing, but when it comes to Craigslist I just pass ’em along, I don’t clean ’em up!

OK, I’ve just added Madison, GA, to my list of must-see places.

Just when I thought I had a pretty good handle on the postwar British sports car scene, along comes something like that. Wow. Just . . . wow.
Thanks, Ed. I’d never have known even where to start looking for that. -

OK, guys, take me to school. What in the heck is that slick little red beauty with the big No. 5 on the door and boot? And does it really have only two cylinders?

I’m not in the market for another TD myself, but it seems like someone from down San Antonio way was looking to buy awhile ago.

No, Tom, I’m sorry to say that the longest drive I’ve taken was about 34 miles round trip, out past Decker Prairie through thick piney woods on some winding county roads to a spot on the map called Stagecoach, Texas, southeast of Magnolia. No particular reason, other than curiosity about the name. My wife and I have visited Fredericksburg many…[Read more]

Monday evening was the first time in months that I’ve driven and found myself wishing I’d worn a long-sleeved shirt. Like Mark, I still can’t drive during the daytime without the top up — although here in Houston, unlike Phoenix, we always have humidity to deal with.

I can’t decide. One day I like the gold wheels. The next day I don’t. If nothing else, they are different. I do wish they were 15-inch, instead of 14, but I can’t afford to replace them AND the rubber right now — plus, there’s the fake spare cover to consider. Whatever wheels I went with, I’d have to find something similar that could be cut down…[Read more]

Thanks, Ed, but my younger brother got all the woodworking genes in our family. A 17-inch wheel would be way too big for the Lafer, especially given my short legs and the cumulative effect of all those years drinking Lone Star, Shiner and Dos Equis (in other words, my beer gut gets in the way).

Thanks. I’ve been watching those sites. The only problem is that I keep coming across other stuff I’d like to have, too.

The only time I’ve had a problem like that it turned out to be the steering damper. A fairly easy fix.

Lafers all came with front-hinged doors and glass side windows. As I never drive in any precipitation heavier than a light mist, mine spend most of their time stowed in the garage.

I have mirrors on both doors, and manage to see just fine. (Note: Ill-fitting top has since been replaced.)
