We’ve been lucky so far. You’re a bit closer to the Gulf down there. Maybe the skeeters are working their way inland.

From one 40-year husband to another: Well done, sir. We marked that milestone in February, but didn’t celebrate it until the end of May when we took a two-week road trip through West Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and up the coast of California from just north of LA all the way to San Francisco. I wish we could’ve done it in the Lafer, but didn’t…[Read more]

I also send a note to Classic Instruments asking for help from them as to which sender to purchase. Like you stated I need to get the correct ohms sender to match the gauge. I was hoping someone from the site would happen to know which one I would need.
Thanks for the help.I replaced the hood piano hinge with a couple 3″ SS hinges. I like the… -

Fire damaged huh. Did you by chance get it from Texas? There was a TD on the Samba that was listed as fire damaged and was located in Texas. Just wondering. We’ll help as much as we can.

It’s not the same as a stock VW. Call Classic Instruments and ask them if they have one for you. Here’s a link to their stock sender page.If your gauge is from the original kit it will want much more ohms (resistance) that the VW gauge. –in my case the original BCW/Classic Instruments sender was reading 63 ohms at about 3/4 full, as opposed to 10…[Read more]

Samba had a video on removing the brake drum. There is a special tool for removing the big nut. It has about 200 lb torque and probably rusted and froze.

Greg,Here is a link to an IRS diagram that might be helpful. http://www.1800vw.bizhosting.com/0.suspension_rear.irs.htmYou want to make sure it’s not your CV joint. If it’s the outer bearing it is pretty simple to replace if you have basic mechanical skills and tools.Good luck and wear latex gloves.

It’s all about the ohms. The VW uses an 75 ohm sending unit, 10 ohms full, 75 ohms empty. If your Classic Instruments gauge matches, then a stock VW sending unit will work.Lots of sending unit discussion in this thread:https://tdreplica.com/forum2/forum_posts.asp?TID=1579&KW=sender&PID=10486&title=fill-er-up#10486
