John, You got it right. There is a stud on the medallion that fits thru a hole in the hubcap. The stud has a hole thru it cross ways near the end. A cotter key goes thru the hole and flat washers, possibly plastic or felt ,take up the extra length of the stud to insure a snug fit.

That TD type grill is all a show piece–trick is to not try to make it functional. Get a new radiator–or maybe the old one will even work–with a pressure cap. Route the top-of-chrome, exterior hole to an overflow tank and put any kind of fancy cap you want on that, just for show. The “real” radiator should fit behind/inside and have its own…[Read more]

Are you saying that you actually fill the radiator thru the top of the grill shell? Every front engine replica that I have seen fills under the hood as the radiators all sit back several inches behind the grille. You may have a MGTD radiator and if you do ,the Moss cap may fit it.

Larry Murphy replied to the topic A picture, finally in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 5 months ago
John, The short answer is no. I saw somewhere that you can weld bolts to the VW wheels which if positioned correctly, will hold the MG hubcap in place. The center part of the VW wheel will still cause the hubcap to stick out farther than it does on the MG wheel as the cap sits on top of the bumps on the VW wheel instead of fitting over them.…[Read more]

Sorta kinda. You have to put studs in the wheel, and the MG cap sits on top of the ridge that the VW cap fits over, leaving the four “ears” on the wheel exposed. Looks sort of funky, but it’s been done.I don’t think it looks better than the plain VW cap with the MG emblems.
