I believe the quick fix is cutting the springs or getting new springs that are the correct lenght and the correct compression rate.
but
I believe the correct way to resolve this would be coilovers with the correct spring rate for the weight of the car. This would be an expensive alterative but would really solve every issue. -

Cutting springs is generally bad unless you’re going autocrossing. Even then. You lower the ride height but increase the spring rate (ride stiffness). Another solution will present itself.

Yeah…noticed that after I posted. That’s cool. I’ll switch over to the TD Registry and put in the info. Well planned info anyway…like someone else did. Thanks Paul

Hi Allen,I own a Classic Roadsters Duchess, so I can’t answer your first question. But if you are asking about the TD Registry? We don’t collect serial numbers. Just owner and car info.

Got this one on ebay from a guy in Colorado who casts them. He posts every couple months or so with a “buy it now” price, which he recently discounted. Paid $32 I think. Not as good as $8, but not as bad as $45 and got the MG crest and a pretty cool curved look.

Thanks Mark, Dale, and Richard. Right now it’s looking like I’m a no-show, as in-laws are coming over. If it changes I’ll scoot down there.

I like that one, Chuck. I’ve still not done anything about this problem. It’s still extremely intermittent, and so I hedge by parking facing down hill. Nice car show cancelled today ’cause of rain. Maybe I’ll jack her up and have a look at the starter & solenoid. Thanks all for the sage advice. Wouldn’t have thought of the Ford (“better idea”) or…[Read more]

Also, a ceramic coater header will not only outlast a painted steel header, the under hood heat is greatly reduced. You’ll pay more, but it’s well worth it.

Stock VW engines DO NOT have head gaskets.
IMHO…never reuse a head gasket
Invest in the Robert Bentley publishers “Red Book” or “Blue Book” for a great air-cooled VW manual.Pink MG40410.4508101852 -

Rob, send me a personal message with your address and I’ll get it the way.
All I did to search for the header on ebay was type in “ford 2.3 header”, several will probably pop up then just pick the one you like and bid. They were going for 100 to 150 used at the time. It cleared fine, it came down lower than the original exahust manif…[Read more] -

Most solenoids/relays can be fixed by taking them apart and flipping the contact disc over and turning the bolts that are the contacts 180 degrees. I did one on my garden tractor last sunday!

Does anyone know if you can replace the head gaskets when you slide (wiggle) the head back that inch or so? I’ve had limited success reusing head gaskets. Does VW use copper gaskets or any at all?

Hi
I installed the 3417 with 1 outlet pipe (a very long pipe!) Might need a red flag on that tailpipe it’s sooo long…
The sound is great, nice and quiet until you punch it then it has a nice throaty sound.
I did have clearance problems so I moved the fiberglass cover back about 5/8 inch and it just clears now. Had to redill one hole and add…[Read more] -

Montie, A template would be good then I don’t have to make all the mistakes getting one to fit, and any directions would be nice. The original air cleaner just looks bad with half of the bottom and side cut out!! What kind of header did you look for on ebay? Does it clear everything on the undersile of the car without any alteration and how…[Read more]

I got the header and aluminum valve cover off ebay. It took about 4 months of watching for and finally winning one at a price I was willing to pay, under $100. I’m cheap I guess. The air cleaner just happend to be with some other stuff I picked up at a local car show, lucked into it.
