At an auto parts store. Sorry, I couldn’t resist that.
But seriously, I took a scrap piece of gel coated fiberglass from my car into an auto parts store and simply compared it to all the touch-up paints. I found a match. If you don’t have something you can take in, start with some digital pictures. Find some paints that seem close and ask the…[Read more]

All,
Wow! You know math was never one of my best subjects, but as time has moved on I have developed a much better understanding and appreciation of it. Good to know I got the answer right. Take THAT elementary school math teacher, whoever you were!
Oh yeah, and just to be absolutely sure, we shoud all fill ’em up and run ’em till they’re empty…[Read more] -

Rich has the formula exactly right, and those are the same dimensions I have in my car. I figure 12 gallons is just about right, and my gas gauge seems to be accurate, although I need to test it to be sure.Greg

My bride and I had the pleasure of meeting Mel and his lady while they were here in Florida. I know they want to be here in The Villages full time (we have the very best snow removal) but sadly they are stuck. 🙁 When they return we’ll have our car completed, running, and enjoying it. The new wiring harness is wonderful, and was not that hard ti…[Read more]

Larry Murphy has brandy new rear coils that he may be interested in selling to you.
Chevette rear springs and shocks are still available (MOOG, AC Delco, Raybestos, Husky, etc.) http://www.rockauto.com
Also, shocks WILL NOT stop a bottoming out situation. Shocks only dampen spring oscillation and keep the tire in contact with the road.
KYB makes a…[Read more] -

Real TD’s had large (5″ ?) diameter Speedo & Tach too. Not the 3.5″ diameter we usually see in our replica’s.
You really only need a Speedo & TACH both (large diameter), Fuel, Oil Pressure and Volts. The head temp senders are usually a spark plug washer style sensor. -

Hawk, perhaps just replacing the tired springs would help. I replaced my leaf springs on my ford based product and it resolved my bottoming out. I considered adding coil over shocks as well but have other priorites at the moment.

Did some investigation on my fuel system gauge not working this weekend. It appears the sender has failed. Just ordered a new sender Auto Meter part number 3262, 240 OHM, $39. I’ll have it to install this weekend. My tank is the same size as Rich’s and I have the Vintage Reproductions gauges so hopefully the original sender which is marked as…[Read more]

Does anyone know a current shock PN (Koni adjustable would be really great) that are bolt-in fits for the CMC Chevette MG TD?
I’ll be happy to be among the first to try them in this application if I can be reasonably sure I’m buying the right ones.
Anyone have a modern cross reference for the CMC specified TRS 80802 shocks? Or maybe the specs…[Read more] -

I am thinking of replacing my shocks with adjustable Koni’s. It helped on my other sports car for bottoming out, but I don’t know if this is a solution to your suspension. We have some members that know a great deal about the suspensions. The Koni shocks maybe just a bandaid fix, but it has helped for better than 25 years so far on my other car…[Read more]

Hawk
With 2 people my chevette rear bottoms out on occasion. Sometimes on bumps that I think are not that bad. I had wondered about a fix myself. Shocks seem to work OK, but maybe the springs are worn or wrong cut?
Hopefully maybe someone will enlighten us on a fix (or a diet that works)

The one I saw (yellow with brown fenders, the classic “Cream Cracker”) was
VW powered. It might have been a BCW but I suspect it was a Fiberfab. Good
price though. -

I took my wing to a local plastic company in Philly. Typically they do acrylic awards & such. They drilled the holes, & beveled the sides. I had them do four for a total cost of seventy-five dollars. I keep a spare set in case I need to replace any of the two new ones.

Thanks all for replying. Did talk to Mike at the Street Beasts. He is still there from Classic Carriages. Said the same about too many color manfgrs & colors. Did say that mine should be a cream white since it was built around 1985. Going to boat repairs shops as well as paint shops.

Hawk:
FYI
Moss sells a stick which you put down into the tank and it approximates the amount of fuel in there

Dan,
Unfortunately for me, a prior builder of this car sealed up the spare tire cover with fiberglass. It makes it tight – but certainly inhibits access to the things under that cover.
I’ll sort it out sooner or later. And meanwhile I’ll use the trip odometer to handle fuel needs.
Thanks to all who’ve contributed.
