  • All,
This was driving me nuts. My gage seems to work fine. It read just below 1/2 when I filled it a few minutes ago. It took 6.39 Gallons. That would put the capacity at around 12. So not leaving things to chance and applying a little math, I came up with the following:
My tank is 15″X20″X9.25″ which = 2775 Cubic Inches
    There are 1728 Cubic…[Read more]

  • Rollie, These car are not real TD’s and never will be (Thank GOD!). We all make them “ours” by the little modifications we do to them. So, they don’t have to sound “right”.
PUT THE LOUDEST FREAKING HORNS YOU CAN FIND ON THE CAR!
I got a set that sounded like a 60’s Cadillac at Pep Boys…FIIA? They were plastic and are now on Larry Murphy’s car.…[Read more]

  • The senders in these cars are usually the culprit. Today’s gasoline eats up everything. The older stuff was not made to withstand the additives, especially the ethanol, in today’s fuel. Letting our cars sit for long periods of time with today’s fuel in them doesn’t help either.
Measure your tank’s dimensions, get the cubic inches and convert that…[Read more]

  • Ringo/Sarge,
Yeah, I recently experienced that “horn”. Went to take a left turn and left PLENTY of room cars to go around me on the right. But, some TD enthusiast in a big truck hit the air horn just as he came along side. Thought I might have to replace the driver’s seat!  It did get my attention though.

Same here. One toot and its sounds like a train is coming. Gets their attention quickly. $49 mounted under hood out of sight.

  • RollieWelcome to the group.I go by if they can’t see me, they sure should hear me.  I’ve got a set of air horns with on board compressor that’s loud enough to peel paint at close range.   Is it “right”?  No.  Has it saved my bacon? Yes. If my wife would let me, I’d have ’em in all my vehicles. Too many people driving around in sound proof coc…[Read more]

  • I bet your HAPPY Good luck  as for the trany try lucas you can get it at advance auto parts I have used it in a car lot I worked at, it will smooth out shifting and ends sliping . one question are you close to Cherokee ?  Dan R

  • Guess I’ll join the pack too and put my 2 cents in.  My gas gauge dosen’t work either, one of the things I’ve been wanting to fix.  I’ve just been doing like Rob and filling up about every hundred miles.  It takes about 5.5 to 6.5 gal each time.  Sounds as though the gauges aren’t too reliable.

    Welcome to the group!
Since you describe the tank as rectangular, I really doubt it’s a stock tank. Chevette and Pinto tanks are flatter than what I would call rectangular, so the only way to be sure of capacity is to measure dimensions.
You might want to test the sender with an OHM meter to see if it’s in spec.  My experience says re…[Read more]

  • My gas guage is not reading properly so I’m filling up every hundred miles.

  • Hi W Lee,I put convex mirrors on both fenders. Moss Motors has them. JC Whitney usually has them too.Once they are adjusted and you get used to them, you have a pretty good view to each side. And a quick tip to actually getting replies to your questions…Keep each thread on topic. If you have a new question, create a new thread with the…[Read more]

When I first got the Duchess, took off the wind wings.  Put them back on cause they did help and I thought they looked good.
How much do they help? Depends on speed.  Like the older cars with vent windows, when they were open they definitley cut down on turbulence coming through the main door window. In a convertable they help mainly at l…[Read more]

No intention of sounding impatient, just thought the short answer was all that was needed.
As to where to look, wish I knew.  I’d start at some of the VW vendors like CP1, or a quick google search.  Some of the guys here probably have specific places to go.  Seems that some have had luck with Ebay.

  • If you can not find a original frame some were then you might check with the Speedway catalog, some of the American roadsters and hot rods had fold down frames. They also sell the hardware with it. Plan on spending a few bucks and a lot of modifying ( but it is worth it ) Bill

  • Lee,
I actually responded directly to you on 7/8 under the topic Wind Wings.

Ok, the next question, does it help with the wind?

  • I’m catching up on mail and various forums, having been completely off the matrix for a week. I’m reading through the above and am not sure if we’re still talking about a car or a “significant other”.One thing is clear…Mel sure does “luv” “her”!

  • Mark is correct. Most of the wind is coming from behind. The windshield creates a vacuum and the air rushes over the top of the glass, and makes a u-turn into the back of your head.I find the wings smooth some air going down the sides. But Dan R is on target…the wind is part of the fun. If you need to stay covered (like I do!) do what the…[Read more]

  • Mel,The car looks awesome! The center zip is normal for a tonneau cover, so if only the driver is in the car, you can keep the passenger side covered (and dry if the weather turns bad)

  •  I stand corrected. Glad to know that they are so reasonable. Brad at MG MAGIC is a very knowledgable person and I did not mean to imply any thing against him or his company. I was under the impression that real wire wheels cost more like $500. each.
