Bill,
I might want to see if your friend could make a few things for me- I will get in contact w/ you in a few weeks as I complete my car.
One question- My car has a solid fiberglass tire shaped pc that mounts on the engine cover- no vents, just solid. Am I missing something? Should this be vented somehow? Thanks, Dale -

Bill the powder coat looks great. I do admire the way your whole engine cover comes off so you can get to the workings. I have the same T handle catches on mine, but what are the catches on the back of the cover?

Looks awesome Bill.
I thought I gave you some of those OEM VW “snap in the shroud” plug wire guides with the glass beaded shroud?
If you can, you should route the plug wires through them and move the coil back to the stock location too.
If not, you should plug all those little holes left in the shroud whether or not they are threaded.

Frank I’d like to add to your Post that I use a Spare Tire Cover ..It’s the kind that just covers the Tire not the wheel..If he gets a Cover I would recomend that kind..A good Auto Top Shop could make a Cover very easy and Cheaper then MG Magic or Moss Motors..I had my Bus up yesterday to a Friend of mine that Manages a Seat Cover Shop in…[Read more]

Check your local RV or Camper Supply stores. They usually carry a variety of tire covers in various sizes. But beware that putting a tire cover of a VW based kit could cause overheating or restrict fresh air to the Carburetor.

I have a 67~68 1500. I am running with 20W50, today I got a new oil presure sensor, that has two leads so I will add an idiot light as well, so that if the gauge is off, I know I’m ok if the light is not on.
As far as driving the car in Calgary, I expect to garage it for 6 months starting at the end of October, or when the snow flies! I get…[Read more] -

Brian,
Because you car has an Air Cooled VW motor, it is normal to have a higher oil pressure at first when the engine and oil are cool. As the engine heats up, so dose the oil and the warmer the oil, the thinner it becomes thus, a lower oil pressure. That being said, long idle times, more than 10 min, in a air-cooled car isn?t a good id…[Read more] -

Many things can contribute to this. The 900 RPM idle speed is on the top end of a fast idle speed in my opinion. The idle speed affects the fan speed and engine cooling. Too low is not good either.
Oil viscosity is also a concern, most Type 1 engines like 20W-50. In the dead cold of winter in Calgary, 10W-40 is a safe bet. Do you drive the car…[Read more] -

Frank,
From what I’ve read it apears somewhere between 180 and 220 is acceptable, I attempt to keep mine under 200, – but then I live in Canada! and that is after running at 3,800 RMP for three hours – averaging 70 to 75 mph!

If you want to check out paint colors, I think it’s a good idea to go to a new car dealorship and look at colors on cars instead of paint chips. When you see something you like you can obtain the paint code from the dealor and take it to your paint store. I’ve been fooling around with the two stage paints for awhile and love them. They are m…[Read more]

Thanks again Pink
I will check the prices and see which is the best way to go.
I am starting to lean toward not buying a top at all, but just getting the cover behind the seats ( what is this called? ) and throwing in a W/P car cover in the boot in case of a bad rain and wait it out. I don’t plan on driving it in the rain anyway at this point ( I…[Read more] -

Pink,
Thanks for the info- I love your car in the photo gallery and hope mine looks as good when I am done. Mine will have wire wheels- so a little more hot rod style, but a TD for sure. I have just finished fixing all the gelcoat cracks and dings and am ready to prime. I think I can prime it myself, but don’t think I am ready to take on the…[Read more] -

Unfortunately, those parts are no longer available new now that FiberFab/CMC is long gone. However, the good new is that Moss Motors sells tops and side curtains that fit our kits. http://www.mossmotors.com
When I do tops on my kits, I use a local guy and let him use the old tops as a pattern. He also fabricated a top and side curtains for a Classic…[Read more] -

As you can see in the Photo Gallery, several of us have red MGTD’s. I’m not sure if all were painted or not. I know that my car, Pink MG, is painted red, not gel coat. It is darn near the color of a 1970 Corvette I built in 1984. I painted it a Porsche color called Guardsman Red. Ditzler sold that same color and called it Indian Red and that is…[Read more]
