I know my car will pass an inspection.
Paul I have all that info and forms.
My problem is the inspector for my district of wisconsin says he’s booked for the next 3 weeks doing salvage inspections,the junk the insurance companies wrote off as totaled,and somone is trying to put back on the road.Says he’ll call when…[Read more] -

Well to clear up the interior.I have the seat and seat belts,however I can’t realy see what good seat belts will do in one of these glass cars.I have the carpet kit for the car but it’s got some real bad staining,some areas have turned orange,and then there’s the mouse holes chewed in it.The door panels were also in rough shape so I just cut new…[Read more]

Lee another one on ebay,type in buffalo slimlight,around 35 a pair.Look real close to originals.My only beef is I contacted the seller through email about the size and function,single or dual filament bulbs,and no responce.Guess I should have called the toll free number.Just running the vw lights for now.

Bill;I had one rear fender that was twisted badly from having somthing leaning on it for 25 years.
I went for broke and took my heat gun to it,figured I had nothing to loose.Fiberglass is afterall a plastic,and will respond to heat(this you know)I heated the fender from the inside while having my hand on the outside feeling for the heat to come…[Read more] -
Scott A Chynoweth replied to the topic oil? in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 2 months ago
ed just read your post.My brother has a 67 firebird and he runs rottela for diesel engines due to the non exsistance of the zinc additive.Not sure how long the zinc will be in diesel oils as I know they have been reformulating them with less zinc.
On a side note however the cam is bathed in oil at the bottom of the crankcase on a vw.So my…[Read more] -

Scott A Chynoweth replied to the topic VW Engine Trouble in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 2 months ago
Paul sorry to here the bad news.
I don’t think there will be enough clearance to get the head past the studs.Then theres the issue of trying to hold the pushrod tubes and cylinders in place while putting the head back on.All while lying on your back.Best off to just remove the engine put it on a stand.
I think that is number 3 cylinder,some of my…[Read more] -

Conratulations Charlie;
I have a couple questions on your inspection.Do you have reverse lights?and emergency flashers?
I know every state is different as well as what the inspectors mood is on the day of inspection.Just trying to get a feel if mine is going to pass.I plan on having the reverse lights,just no provision for flashers. -
Scott A Chynoweth replied to the topic Bumper Spacers in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 2 months ago
Bill;
Just took a look at my spacers.They are about 1 1/4 in square flat on one side,and a curve on the other to fit the curve of the bumper,made from some cheap grade cast aluminum.I would think you could use nuts of the same size as the bolt just drill out the threads.Just somthing to keep from distorting the bumper when tightend down. -

Well I have been hard at final assembly of my MG.Some slight change of plans in the engine department,going with a fresh rebuilt 1600 with 2 hours run time on it.Picked it up for what I thought was a good price;$700 as a long block.So this past weekend I was busy getting the engine top end assembled and installed in the car.Also been busy bolting…[Read more]

Just about all the major parts stores carry a universal cable.Just cut to the needed length,comes with the crimp on end and little tool to do the crimping.Best way to cut is with a cut off wheel on a dremel tool.

my 2 cents;with rebuilt engines going for 1600 and up and the frame is ready to go,sounds like a fare price.

I agree nice looking car.But he should have taken the photo’s on level ground.There is too much space between the fender and tire on the passenger side makes it look like somthing aint right.

Scott A Chynoweth replied to the topic shifter bushing help in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 4 months ago
ed try the vdub sights,they have replacment shift rod guides as well as shift rods.Although electric conduit is about the same wall thickness and only about $6 for a 10 foot stick.And you hit it right putting a twist in the bracket eliminates the need for the bushing.Just replaced the bushing on mine and lubed it up with anti-sieze.

Body Type-22381 Body No. 22536/98770
Did a search on the numbers,body type makes the tag for a TD.Couldn’t find much for the body number though.I was hoping to find a year based on the body numbers.Oh well still a neat little trinket to fool those that don’t know real from replica. -

Could also be that the disc splines are rusted to the input shaft.It only takes a little rust to sieze things up.
