December 29, 2009 at 5:46 am #240356Nice looking car/s. How did you manage to get your photo’s uploaded? I get a blank screen when I try.
December 22, 2009 at 6:13 am #240313Hi Bovi,
Welcome to the site. There’s alot of helpful people here. The Ford/Chevy kits had their own frame that came with the kit. The donor was used for the motor, transmission, front axel etc.
I think if you search the site you will find assembly manuals that have been transposed electronicly. If not just ask, Iam sure someone will send you one.
Good luck & welcome to the site.

April 26, 2009 at 9:22 am #238701My Chevette TD has a cat (a gutted out one) and during assembly I made a Stainless steel heat shield for protection just to be sure. A working cat can get very hot. I left an air space between the fiberglass floor pan and the shield. I have put on over 2000 miles and have had no problem.

March 30, 2009 at 6:52 pm #238495Hi Guy’s
I may be off base, could this be a loose baffel in the muffler of converter? I have had rattly mufflers before.

March 11, 2009 at 6:05 am #238400Hi Dick,
The sender should be to the right of the distributer, under the intake manifold. Or at least it is on my 84 chevette td. It is tucked in and difficult to see.
Good luck, Bill
January 25, 2009 at 11:33 am #238100Where are you in NY? Iam from Wolcott. Located inbetween Syracuse and Rochester, near the lake. I have a Chevy front engine TD that is also red. Your right it’s cold everywhere in NY!!
January 25, 2009 at 8:26 am #237883Geoff,
Well it was a great plate #. Unfortunatly it’s been taken. So I will have to be creative and find a plate # on my own. I hope they enjoy it.
Thanks again, Bill
January 25, 2009 at 8:03 am #237882Hi Geoff,
Thanks for the plate info. I will see if I can get it. Do you have your car home yet? You will have plenty of sunny days to enjoy it there, not like our chilly NY weather.
Thanks again! Bill
January 19, 2009 at 9:09 am #237880Hi Geof,
Very nice car! I live in NY and would love to have your old lisence plate # if your through with it. Your car is simular to mine (Bills Baby on the yahoo site) mine is red with a white interior and a Chevy engine (stock for now) I actually tried to get a vanity plate with a simular message with no luck. I promice to keep it in nice shape if you get rid of it.
Thank you, Bill Hursh, Wolcott NY
January 5, 2009 at 7:33 pm #238071I have heard that the marine supply companys may be able to fill your needs for blades and possibly the arms also. Good luck.

November 29, 2008 at 7:53 am #237964Hi Dick,
It sounds as if you changed all the major componets. Did you have a front end or 4 wheel alignment done? I don’t know if that will help your problem, but it will not hurt. Thats what I did afer the assembly to be sure the car tracked correctly. Also be sure the rear axel is stable. My car (chevette TD kit) handles well at highway speeds so there must be something left. Good luck.

November 22, 2008 at 8:59 am #237837I saw a TD kit with a 302 ford engine on e-bay a while ago. It fit, not sure about anything else. I’ll take a ride also when you get it in!

November 21, 2008 at 8:10 am #237822Im 5’11” and 210 lbs and I fit fine. I have modified my seat back though, to allow for more belly space!
Good luck!

November 21, 2008 at 6:08 am #237820Hi Rob,
My front engine chevy TD kit car weighs in at around 1900 pounds. Surprizing the same as Pauls VW kit.

February 14, 2008 at 11:26 am #237280Hi Ed,
I checked the size of my tires on my chevy based TD. They are P195 75/R14. I run the tire pressure at mfg recomdations. I also had a shake in my car upon the completed assembly. I found 2 things that helped. The tires on the car during assembly, though new, had flat spots from setting for extended periods. The other thing I found, the front shocks, even though they were new, were leaking oil. I was able to match them to a new set of gas charged shocks and she drives like a dream. I hope this helps. Good luck.

January 12, 2008 at 6:53 am #237238Hi Ed,
Nice looking car! My Chevette based TD is on blocks in storage at this time,(upstate NY is kinda cold for these cars) so I can’t help you now. When warmer weather gets closer & its back on the wheels again I will be happy to check the dimension you are looking for. I know my springs were cut to the assembly specks.

I have pic’s of mine under Bills Baby in the photo section at the mgtdkitcarclub website to help compare.Bill Hursh39459.6667824074
October 24, 2007 at 6:11 am #237198I have a Chevette kit. During the assembly the original chevy front coil springs were to be cut shorter in order to make the car level. My car had that done during the assembly and it sits level and she drives wonderfuly. I will dig out my manual and let you know how much to cut off.

June 26, 2007 at 6:19 am #237056I don’t. My car has smooth chrome wheels with a spoked basket which bolts on where the hub cap commonly goes. They arn’t real spokes but they do look 10 times better than the cheesy spoked hubcaps. I think MG magic in Fla can help or try any auto/ speed shop and you should be able to find them.
Good luck, Bill
June 25, 2007 at 6:08 am #237054I have 14″ tires on my Chevette kit and the front tires just clear the bumper. The bumper would have to be pushed forward in order for me to increase tire size. The back may allow enough room?

November 28, 2006 at 11:38 am #236929Try MG Magic in Florida. 954-680-2010 They are very helpfull

April 25, 2006 at 5:21 am #236786Hi Mark,
Havent heard much on Pink MG? Hope things are going better. I figured you either shot yourself or quit. Keep us posted.
Did anyone go to spring Carlisle in Pa? There was a very nice original TD for sale there. Only $27000.00

April 1, 2006 at 3:10 pm #236783Hey Mark,
You only live once! I say go for it. There is a nice looking ford TD a fellow named Bill from Pa has in the picture section. He has it set up very nicely. Its time for us Chevy guys to shine. And if you go first, I can pick your brain when its time for mine!
Good Luck, Bill
March 31, 2006 at 2:10 pm #236781Mark,
Too bad about the speedo gear.
This is the way my Chevette TD was assembled, almost. It was a driving chassis before the body was assembled. Although my transmission crossmember was bolted vs welded. My tranny is an automatic.
What other plans do you have for the motor while having it out of the car?
Bill
