These replicas are so close to the real thing that nothing is going to fit perfect.

Oh…and if its any consolation, the owners of real TDs are forever complaining about how much they have to fettle their bonnets when reconstructing their cars.

Some of the actual builders may correct me, but I think what you’re experiencing is entirely normal. My car’s hood isn’t just right either, and I made it slightly worse when I added a radiator up front–the top bracket apparently spreads the sides just a leetle beet more than the top hood piece wants to stretch to cover. SPROOONG. Also: “crack”…[Read more]

Those look pretty good. Chevettes are 4 x 100mm. Here is a list of other cars with that bolt pattern. A lot of steelies have 10-16 round holes. Ther are a lot of 4×100 wheels, both stock and aftermarket, to choose from. I’d look at mid ’90s Sentras, and mid 2000s Scions….
The best match for an MG wheel I have found is the 4 x 4.5 inch Nissan… -

You are right that the “correct” wheel size is 15. The front engine BCW cars used adapters to fit VW wheels over Chevette hubs. The owner might still have them. Alternatively you could have them made. If it were mine I’d see about getting the hubs fitted with new studs at 4.5 inches. Then find a set of MGA steel wheels or go to MWS wires.

Cut that silly bolt on original bracket and had the strut mount welded to the 8″ housing.

Reused the kits upper center strut. Already had the panhard rod installed so all I needed was the two lower links. I just measured and adjusted so the wheels were centered in their fenders and the wheelbase was the same side to side. Quite simple really.

What brand/size? The stock Bug speedos look and work great, especially when paired with a 5-inch tach.

I will put in a vote for Kadron/Solex duals.
I had one of mine ported for a vacuum advance Dist and in 10 years have not had a single problem other then a dropped out part I lost for awhile when I took them off to fix another problem. They just work and go and go. Can be found often for 100.00 plus a rebuild. If they fit. -

Just a reminder: Jack’s car’s bodywork has been modified to fit an engine that ran something like dual 44 Webers. Basically, anything you throw at it will fit under his rear gas tank.
