Roy. I did the autoX and my car is a pan with no reinforcements. I think I even beat somebody. So what if the pan flexes in the auto cross? So what if you loop it? There’s plenty of run-off room and you’re not likely to turn it over. (And if you break anything, we’ll help you fix it). It’ll handle as well as it handles and you’ll get an idea about…[Read more]

Don’t know if my windshield is the same as yours. Several kit MFGs offered two sizes–regular and tall. Mine’s regular; the frame is 12 inches high in the center. The original wipers “worked” and swept the glass about as they should.Wiper arms are as pictured–note the unequal lengths (I never did before). They are indeed adjustable. The blades are…[Read more]

That LR rigs looks like it could be a lot stronger than a VW pan.

I’ve got a set of arms from my VW-based BCW I’d be willing to part with. They worked OK the few times I needed them. Probably better than the rig I overthrew them for but there’s no going back now.

Check your 2012 calendar regarding driving in the rain.Yes, the arms need to be cut down. Then it’s trial and error to obtain the correct arc.

Absolutely!I like the 1600 emblems; always thought it’d be super cool to adapt those pancake air cleaners the MG guys use to a VW’s duel carbs. Especially the ones with the MG crests!

Front engine gets a bit more respect from the peanut gallery, maybe from a few MG owners. But you couldn’t measure that without a micrometer. Front engine weigh bias is more TDish I’m sure, but the driving experience is not. Closest to the real TD, if my butt’s memory is any indication, is the VW with the cut/weld front beam and all the torsion…[Read more]

I’ll trace the BCW one and see about doing the real one–harder because it’s got all the junk attached now and it’s a pain to disassemble. Got your PM

I have the tool for making the pigtail curls on cable ends if that is the style you’re referring to. Kept it from my GM days. We made them all the time.

I doubt I can afford to replace the 20 year old tires this year, Roy. And I’m sure I’ll be able to keep the doors closed.

OK, fore sure going to get a new sheath and shorten the wire and mount the handle next to or under the glove box. That’ll improve it much, assuming I don’t screw it up.But my main confusion is with the latch mechanism itself–where to attach
the emergency wire on it? The original is through a barrel connector
and the hole through that is exactly…[Read more] -

Thanks, both of you. Definitely considering the glovebox mount. Will look into the lawnmower and the TR6.

After a bit of work with the 2000 grit and a hand rub, the paint matches well enough. If you’re looking for it you cans see what I did. But you’ll have to be looking for it.
