Pretty fair time. Five TDs plus two owners without their cars (that i know about). We were missing a couple guys from last year who aren’t really active on this site. Weather was pretty much perfect.Food service left a bit to be desired. Below: Roy Hendrix setting up on the show field, then a shot of my car’s nose and Wobby’s and a Speedster’s…[Read more]

Well, Me, you, Schu and Bill–that’s a tournament right there. And we three VW guys can settle some questions about how to set up the suspensions on these cars. Schubie is lifted up on coil-overs. He has wide tires and a bit of an engine in his car. I’ve got the adjustable beam and stock springs, reduced in front, and a set of 165/80/15s. So…[Read more]

If you have weight in the front, definitely take that out first. The adjustable beam/lower spring rate is really, really the way to make these cars “right.” You can lift them with coil-overs but you will stiffen the ride. If you don’t do the same in the back the handling will be unbalanced and you’ll tend to understeer way too much, and the car…[Read more]

The dyno has been right next to the speedster area (and the cobra area behind us). I think it might be a hundred bucks a pull. I think it’d be funny to put Bridget on there & see if she has 50hp (My bet would be about 45 rwhp). But I can’t see blowing a bennie on that kind of joke.as for autoX–YEAH! If y’all’s are too wimpy to stand up for a real…[Read more]

Bill,
They have a wash and vacuum area right as you drive into the Carlisle fairgrounds for everyone to use if needed – not sure if it costs. This is not a judged show anyway and everyone is cool and it will be a good time – no pressure -

Bill,
Hook up w/ me when you get there and we will see what is involved in getting into the autocross/cost etc.The always have a dyno up and running the whole weekend – mostly the cobra type group there, but but they will dyno anyone. I remember it a bit pricey for me. -
billnparts replied to the topic Carlisle 2012 Hotel and Dinner Info in the forum Clubs and Show 13 years, 4 months ago
Shu,
Definitly up for the autocross.I’m told there’s a dyno there, too. Is that true? -

With no time to do any cleaning, I hope they give an
award for the most decrepid. -

That’s Greg Shauber’s [not sure of the spelling] front-engine BCW on the far right there. haven’t heard from him in ages. Hope he shows up with his new bride.Got Bridget vacuumed out just now. Still a buttload of stuff I’d like to do, but I guess it’ll have to wait.I’m ready.

Weather sounds like it will be great – looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new friends.
I will be there on Thursday afternoon through Sunday morning – anyone can reach me on my cell if you want to meet up – I will be going to most if not all of the Speedster functions, but I think we should all cut out on Saturday sometime for a TD… -

OK, we’re back. Put a twist in the cable again, like it had been before, set them up and it gave me e-brake. Got a second set of 1/8 cable clamps and slid them on there for good measure, then glopped some heavy duty sealant on all the nuts to discourage them from backing off. I’ll put the boot back on it tomorrow and you’ll never know it’s been…[Read more]

HAR! Got me some wheel chocks already. I’ll be bringin’ ’em if I can’t settle this matter by Friday a.m.Still would rather have the stick-stopper. Employing those chocks will be very inconvenient in the event of a hydraulic brake failure.UPDATE: twist seems to have done it. Heading to the Despot for another set of 1/8-inch cable clamps to double…[Read more]

34-Pict 3 is what i have. It’s pretty much what you get if you go to the parts store and ask for a stock VW carb. It’ll work fine for anything up to and including a 1.9, say the tinkerers. Usually do want some bigger jets in it for bigger engines. Here’s a guy who took it a bit further on his 1915.

3487 owner here. Nice and mellow, and very discrete. I got asked yesterday whether my car has a Pinto or a Chevette engine. It’s a VW.Only caveat: if you’re building a powerhouse engine you’ll do better with a header and some kind of hide-away system like, maybe, the A-1 Sidewinder. Cost 10x as much as the 3487 but the Speedster guys–most of whom…[Read more]

I like that inset dash. Very cool.Good job on the engine bay too. Most of us have not (yet) done the hard work of isolating the top of the engine from the exhaust. I would love to hear/see more detail about how you did that.
