Way to go, George. Hoping this kit will go together a little easy–since you already put one together.

Just to note: welding the spline hubs on would be the perfect solution if you never plan to do a brake job or grease your bearings again. You would lose access to the nut that holds the drums on . . . .

Go Roy! Hoping this will work. I might try it meself some day.Mike: (and Roy:) (and everybody): The Triumph TR3 spline adapters will fit over the VW hubs, as I found out for myself a few months back. On the rear, you just have to bend the cotter pin. On the front, the outer lip on the grease caps will have to be ground off in order for them to…[Read more]

I think your adaptors are the same ones I test fit. The diameter is a tad too small to redrill at 4×130, so adjusting them would require some welding. My concern was in locating the lug bolts outside the original 4 x 4.5-inch circle, however slightly. The wheels’ inside flange might then seat on the bolt heads, which would be bad. They might not…[Read more]

Craig,
I have a old Fiberfab MG TD – I restored it a few years back and just put it all back together so never was in your position. I can however measure mine ( side panels etc. ) and take pictures and email them if that will help. Email me off line if you want to take me up on the offer.dlschu42 at comcat.net Substitute @ for the atDale -

I also run a suction cup mounted convex rear view mirror.
It’s only about 4″ long. It’s mounted at the windshieldheader for street driving and is easily removed forautocrossing. I’ve also sunk a 2″ convex spot mirrorat the left lower corner of the dash to check the blind spot. -

I’ve got something very much like the original tiny “desmo” mirror and have not found it inadequate. I suppose any of the big “panoramic” clip-on mirrors would slide over it for all-out race use though. And with my car’s performance, I’d see a lot of up-and-comers in it.:-)

Nice shot, Paul.I saw it go once when I lived in FL, many years ago. Pretty impressive sight.I’ll be interested to see what the X-Prize people come up with to beat it, since we’re obviously winding down that old school gummit space jobby.

If it were me I’d just make a note of it in the paperwork that will eventually go with the car if/when you (or your heirs) ever sell it.

I’m trying to get back into fishing. I’ve got four rods and reels that all date from, let’s see…the newest one my grandmother got me for my 12th birthday. Seven-foot spinning rod. The reel on that is a Dam Quick 330N from the mid 1970s. The oldest one my father had for maybe 20 years before he gave it to me when I was about 7. It’s a 5.5-foot…[Read more]

I happen to be blessed with a pretty enormous garage (the previous owner of my house was an unlicensed contractor; put a big addition on without pulling permits). I see stuff like the vid above and feel deep shame that my own space is still a gigantic jumble of tools, spare parts, metal filings, sawdust, a boat, fiberglass and carpet in rolls,…[Read more]

Yes, I think that’s right. If you look at the link above under “pretty good accounting” you see a list of common myths about the Super: that it has a bigger engine, more power, better brakes, etc.The later ones had front disks but those get cut off on a beam install. I think people are just generally ignorant & can’t be bothered to research what…[Read more]

edward ericson replied to the topic Super Beetle (?) based TD in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 5 months ago
The struts won’t fit with TD fenders and the TD hood. If you have a Super you have to remove the strut front suspension and install a beam suspension. (Apparently this involves a fair amount of cutting, welding, swearing, etc.). You’d then have a TD on a “Super” chassis but the chassis would not be any different from the standard chassis. Here’s a…[Read more]
