Ordered the parts. I will try your method tomorrow, and thanks, Peter. If it works I’ll drive her like that at least until the new springs come in.The rears are probably due. Like I said, I’ve had the car near two years now and have no idea when those rear drums were off last. So we’ll see.

Black, cut pile, no edge binding.I bought a roll of marine carpet for the purpose and it’s looking pretty decent so fat.

Good questions, all, Peter. And confession: I ain’t done the rears yet. Didn’t have the giant socket. Got it now. Maybe I’ll start there. To your question: I do leave the e-grake on when it’s parked. I think the cables are set nice–since I just did that when I moved the handle. But my theories about how things work are often proved wrong.I’ll let…[Read more]

Thanks guys. I did get new soft hoses, front and back, and a couple hard ones too. New shoes, new wheel cylinders. I emoried the insides of the drums and I blasted the breaks to set them after install–and yeah, figured out the star wheel adjusters too–or thought I did.Obviously did something wrong. Or…Could’ve been the months the things set…[Read more]

Got word back from Cory Drake, radical builder of a radical Speedster & all ’round good guy. He’s got a fuel cell in his ride and a working gauge, to wit:”AutoMeter gauge and sending unit, JAZ cell.
“Put the float on a belt sander for about 15 seconds on the crescent side, to prevent it sticking when it’s saturated with fuel.” -

Really, I don’t spend much time above 4500. But I have revved her a bit higher once or twice, “pushing it,” as Mark says, just to see what’s what. There’s not a lot to be had up that way, but then again, she doesn’t drop off much either.

I’m just learning too. First time I drove Bridget, with the PO riding shotgun, he’s all like, “you’ve got to rev it! it likes to be revved.” I didn’t wanna. I learned to drive a stick on a 1970 Camaro with a 350 and a 2 bbl. That motor ran out of wind at about 4200. It had plenty of grunt at 2000 though . . .Anyway, these are nothing like that,…[Read more]

Very good, Mike. Actually it’s a ’67 Nova SS. The trunk plates differed slightly from ’66 to ’67.

Got mine from Cip1. Yeah, plastic! Metal ones are like $15. Damn if they don’t work fine. The hard job was doing the shifter bushing. Mine had been eliminated by the PO or his mechanic. Much mirthful hyjinx ensued. But once that was done, I went back and snapped the quick-shift kit on in nothing flat. Highly recommended–but after you make sure…[Read more]

Mike, upper right corner of the TJ shot shows a copy of my old ride. There’s enough there that you can get it, year make and model, if you’re good.

I had trouble getting Bridget into second all the time when I first got her. Turned out the shifter bushings were a mess. I replaced them, put a $7 “quick shift” kit in, and things are much better now. Works every time as long as I remember that second gear is a little away from me, not straight back.
