Thanks guys. Roger on the allen-wrench-as-prybar trick. That’s been my SOP since the beginning. Didn’t try jacking on it yet, but, maybe…. Seems like either it’ll work or break.Already disconnected the shocks, so that ain’t it.I got more slot visible above the top of the wrinkly curved lock plate still, and I know the mechanism moved in its full…[Read more]

Yeah, it’s an adjustable beam. And my above musings are bogus–at least in terms of musing # B. The way it’s made, pretty sure you can’t miss the divot. Can’t get the springs in wrong either–it’s right or it doesn’t go. For more on adjustable beams, and suspension adjusters, do a search for Pinkmg’s posts. He set his up nice and is generally a…[Read more]

Thanks, Mark. I was hoping you’d chime in. Indeed, the top adjuster moves–it went way low when I lowered the car with the adjuster nuts loose. But when I raised it back up, max rise, with the wheels and tires hanging, the top adjuster went only so far. Maybe three quarters of the way back. The nose is all assembled now, and the grill is in the…[Read more]

Update: tried to lift the front end a bit with the adjusters; NG. Got the lower one dialed in as high as it will go. That got me about 3/8 of an inch. But the top tube adjuster won’t turn up beyond where it was before. Assume I’ll have to disconnect the upper trailing arms to get it to go, and that’ll preload them and give me some extra height.…[Read more]

HA! Found it. Grounding wire is binding on the fiberglass. I’ve got the horn rigged elsewise so I’ll just rip that sucker out tonight. Then I’ll jack ‘er up and adjust the suspension to give me another inch of down travel and hope that gets it.

It works good in the shop, jacked up and on the ground. Flat floor.

Finally got her all assembled today (front bumper back on, etc.) Took her for a spin with the windshield down just, you know, to be cool.
Figures, eh? I loved it anyway, even though at one point a traffic light changed suddenly & I got a whiff of burning fiberglass/rubber as I pulled her to a stop. See my other post for details.

On my V-dub someone just bent the pedals. Didn’t do them any harm, it seems. What’s the Chevette setup look like? Seems to me you could either bend the pedal stem or relocate the whole thing, including the master cylinder. You might also consider the gas pedal and options for making it more compact. Original TDs had very small foot boxes, and the…[Read more]

That is a righteous-looking ride. Three-bow top, nice and tight. Love the dash too–Porsche gauges, right?Your seats look a lot plusher than mine as well. Thanks for the pics and info.

Allen,
Mine just looks like the standard yellow foam used on most chairs etc. – I
think you can get it most anywhere and cut it to fit. The repair I did helped
me a lot on the long drives.

wait…your fuel gauge works fine now…and you still want to mess with these wires? If you want to play with them and the tank sender and fuel gauge, here is your illustrated primer.Learn it. Live it. Love it.But seriously, why not just tape them up and forget them or, better still, track them to their source and pull them out? Coil them up…[Read more]
