Call your regular car insurance person and tell them what’s up. Sometimes they actually know about this stuff; sometimes they’ll actually put a rider on your existing policy for the new toy. Mostly not, though. Specialty car insurance from companies like Hagerty, Grundy, or others fill in the gap. Call some of them next and tell them what you’re…[Read more]

all good points/observations, Mark. He’s also got it listed as both an ’86 and an ’82. But whatever. Just so everyone knows, I’m no relation to the seller and no intention of bidding. someone here was looking for an automatic & thought I’d try to help.

The Allison Daytona is a nice looking kit. Wobby’s car looks really real in the front and sides, has the right kind of side curtains, very authentic dash and a glove box. Don’t know how thick the glass is, but it has a real solid appearance overall. MY BCW is nice too. I do believe it’s a chopper gun job though, not hand laid except for a few…[Read more]

did you email kwiseman? the PM only works if he comes back to the site. I haven’t seen his car yet on ebay (there is a wretched wreck there right now posted by some bloke who cannot write English, but I wouldn’t recommend that car). Anyway, good luck. These things are available all over, and a lot of them (not mine, alas), seem to have low miles.…[Read more]

edward ericson replied to the topic Volts meter reads low? in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years ago
Thanks, Mark. I’ll do the alternator when/if I get into the engine. It’s $200 beyond the already ridiculously overstretched budget I allotted for this project. Besides, the thing works. I never had to charge the battery or nothing last year, even when using the headlights and CD player! At the same time!Right on re the ‘use another voltmeter’…[Read more]

Put a charged battery in; readings are about the same–11 volts at rest and 12 when running. Think the meter is about 1.2 volts off.

Thanks, guys. It’s a generator. Never “flashed” it; it’s been connected since I got it, and probably for 30 years prior. Brushes good, battery has been living nice for a year and a half, so I assume it’s been charging.I’m thinking the meter ought to read 12 or 12.5 on the battery alone when i turn the key on–before the generator starts turning.…[Read more]

Here’s a little inspiration. This is the nicest V8 TD I’ve yet seen. Could a V12 Jag even fit in there? Post some photos when you get going with ‘er.

Rust-schmust! These cars are fiberglass.
I like the color and the interior pattern on that car. Think you can save that?I also like the offset in the running board for the rear torsion cap. Does that allow the cap to be removed–and the bars adjusted–without taking the body off the frame as is required on my car?Good luck with your resto. We’ll…[Read more] -

That’s good info Charlie. I hadn’t known about the Bus speedo–thought it’s be way shorter ’cause of how they’re built.
