The side curtains on original TDs (and the Allisons) have a metal frame which allows yout to have the top down with sidescreens up. Pretty slick! Then again, getting that mess to work right can be a real chore, as this thread in one of the TD forums shows. (This is a great resource for anyone interested in trying to make a replicar more authentic…[Read more]

Clean job, Larry. That spare tire rack looks best in body color, I think.

Just FYI: paint will stick to gel coat as well as anything. Prep requires dewaxing , a 400-600 grit wetsand, and primer–same as any other car. So if it’s way gone (not likely) or you want to change color (as my car’s PO did), you can get it shot an any competent auto paint shop. No need to use a specialized ‘Vette place.

edward ericson replied to the topic Side View Mirror Visibility in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 5 months ago
I can just about see mine but I gotta kinda stretch my neck up, on account of being on the short side (5-7). I’ve yet to get any of my (4) side view mirrors in an adjustment I like, but since I’m 99 percent of the time driving top-down sunny, I find it easier to glance sideways before changing lanes, etc.

Donna: mine leaks just a spit. I consider it an authentic feature, as MG TDs leaked too.Kidding aside, I fully expect to de-leakify it when I adjust the valves this spring. New gaskets, torqued to spec, won’t leak.As for engine breakdowns–with rare exception they appear to happen in two circumstances: extreme neglect/abuse of stock motors and…[Read more]

I used mine as a daily driver for a number of years. You’d be surprised how good it is in the snow. Over the years it has been modified to go faster and faster. Posts in this thread are correct. Your testicles want to hide at speeds over 100mph. She’ll cruise all day at 75 but the wind noise and wind buffeting get tiresome. Her basic chore these…[Read more]

Pretty sure my Classic Instruments speedo is working as intended, just that the PO never installed the little gear adjustment box described in the instructions. I’m thinking the larger faced dial & 100 mph read should look better and work better.
Be digging into this by Thanksgiving or so, as good days for driving are getting sparse & I now have…[Read more] -

Moss has the wiper parts for sale. I’d skip the original-style repro motor at like $325 though. Hot rod and/or boat supply places can get you something very close for $30-$70.

It’d fit in the garage. Not the budget. On that note, I just scored a pair of gen-u-ine SRT 576 Lucas fogs for $42 including shipping. “Patina” on them (o.k., “pitting,” if you prefer) just about matches what’s on the rest of Bridget, so when I put them on her it should look like they’ve been there forever. In my fevered mind, this will be a big…[Read more]

“Made in England?” Obviously it’s some kind of experimental-head XPAG! Go with it, man, you’ve obviously unearthed a rare “special” MG.Or, then again, I wonder if maybe you have the German EAO engine (which could indeed be dated 1970) with the Kent (“Made in England”) air cleaner?

edward ericson replied to the topic Identification in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 6 months ago
Given the sorts of folks these kits got sold to, I suggest that it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that the previous owner modded the car. I bought a two-bow top frame off ebay a few weeks ago for about $45, with the idea of adapting it to Bridget for a more authentic look. And it just might work!Hot rodders are always swapping engines in…[Read more]
