I’ve got to naysay, Noel.
Nothing any of us drive would even remotely fill your bill of particulars.
Whether Chevy, Ford or VW-based, if you own a TD kit car now, you HAVE to tinker with it to keep it going. Most of us like it that way but it’s not everyone’s cuppa. If you can’t do basic maintenance and mechanical trouble-shooting you’re just…[Read more]

Bill should just hang an IV bag from the roll cage.
I bought these fold-up jobbies for Bridget. They’re screwed into the side of the tunnel (my side only now, since the passenger side now has fuel lines running there). Folded up it’s invisible against the black carpet. Folded down it works fine and keeps my drink easily reachable, if not as…[Read more]

The track did improve. First run was wet, but by the time I got my second run, the track was mostly dry and I ran 4 seconds faster than my best time with the old motor. If we get a dry track we should do even better, unfortunately, there’s more rain in the forecast.

I once considered putting a cup holder in the left running board. Easily accessible and out of the way.

The charm of the replica TD is that it IS 60+ year old technology. No power steering, no power windows (windows?), no locks, no air bags, no ABS, no crash bumpers, no crumple zones, no computers. Ah, the allure of the simplicity of the past.

Once again pouring rain at registration and tech inspection. Hopefully the track will dry sometime tomorrow.

Fan shroud.
Putting a fan over the whole rad is good but the key is getting the air to move through the whole thing–a full shroud and then a way for the air to get out from under the hood. These cars, like most, can develop relatively high pressure under the front. The ope louver idea could work as well.
I made a shroud over the rad and allow…[Read more]

We are going to try again. This is the same course as the Pagoda Hillclimb where I crashed in June with an additional mile of higher speed road along Skyline Drive. This is where I damaged the 4 cylinder engine last year. Hopefully, I can muster the courage to open it up along there.

Wires are going in. Pedals are in. I re-worked them a little with nylon bearings so they won’t wear out so fast.
Tonight I cut the first template for the floating floor.

Also got word from the upholsterer. He’s making progress.

20 mph is a huge jump. I can only assume the drive train came from more than one vehicle to be that mismatched. On the transmission end of your speedometer is a plastic gear. There are gears available with different number of teeth on them. By changing to a different toothed gear you can alter the speed reading. Increasing teeth will result in…[Read more]

Now you’re having fun.
Tea is apparently indispensable to any British car build process, as we have all learned from watching the Project Binky videos. (You HAVE binge-watched them all, haven’t you?)

Both are correct. Cream and brown is correct for the vast majority of TDs. Black and white went on a some of the later Mark IIs
