I think the dash is almost as hideous as the salesman is boorish.

Dave B. replied to the topic Horn Button in the forum VW Based Kits 10 years, 1 month ago
I’ve been pondering this question myself, and not just for my TDr. I’ve been thinking of putting air horns on my daily driver for those occasions when I really need to get somebody’s attention. Conventional wisdom would be to leave the switch to the stock horn in the center of the steering column and add a switch for the air horn. But I th…[Read more]

Vicenç,I recently had a sticky horn button on mine. To maintain tranquility in the neighborhood, I disconnected the horn and temporarily put a test lamp in its place as I diagnosed and fixed the problem.-Dave -

If this happens I promise I won’t keep it to myself, but I can say that it’s probably not going to happen soon–a lot of much bigger projects ahead of it, I’m afraid.

Thanks, Doug. It should work if the Fiberfab cowl and the Duchess cowl are the same. If they’re compatible, I might be interested in using them as patterns to cast a pair. By way of explanation, our family motto is “Why buy it when you can build it for more?” Actually, my son just built a new foundry and is really interested in doing thi…[Read more]

The dash looks super, right down to the the banana jack plugs, but I’m sorry–the GPS–it just seems wrong.

Thanks, George. It’s not a big deal, but not having brackets is a dead giveaway for a replica. My son and I have been talking about casting a pair of them out of aluminum if I and when I get some of the front burner projects out of the way.

Once again (and though I have an issue with Ed’s theological conclusions) I am grateful for your insights. What you’ve told me goes a long way in explaining why so many of the actual vintage MGs one sees around the internet DON’T have wire wheels. My brother had an old MGB years ago and when I bought my TDr he warned me that it was just about i…[Read more]

Dave B. replied to the topic Sit in a MGTD seat warmed by Marilyn Monroe in the forum General Discussion 10 years, 1 month ago
I just KNOW there have to be some clips like this out there where the roadster doesn’t end up dented (or worse)! The TD in “Two for the Road” (1967) suffers a far worse fate, and the beautiful ’55 TF in “Funny Farm” (1988) doesn’t make it to the end of the movie either. What are these directors thinking?

I was looking at the pictures and got to thinking that you could turn it into a sort of rear-engine street rod: cover the engine with chrome parts and leave them sticking out, but in the back instead of the front. I have to wonder what happened to the engine cover.

Dave B. replied to the topic Ideal thermostat temperature? in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 10 years, 2 months ago
Gentlemen,I pulled out the thermostat and I believe Ed was on the right track. The thermostat is a 1.5-inch thermostat and it fits nicely into the housing. I have a few larger ones lying around and if I put one in it would sit flush with the block and the heater hose would be running from the radiator side of the thermostat, not to mention the f…[Read more]
