Royal replied to the topic Howling Brakes in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 5 months ago
Ed has some good advice. My guess is that the noise is from the springs which are contacting the brake drum when the brakes are applied. They may be on backwards….or perhaps they are the wrong springs. If you don’t have an “Idiots” book, it is a worthwhile investment.
Do the brakes squeal when you apply the parking/emergency brake? Try to…[Read more]

Royal replied to the topic no brake lights found fluid low in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 5 months ago
Somewhere during the process of changing my rear brake cylinders, the master cylinder, rear shoes and installing discs on the front, I must have misplaced my sonic warning – it no longer functions. But, I have noticed that if my head tilts slightly forward when driving, it usually means that my brakes are working.
A note on the pressure…[Read more]

Royal replied to the topic Tire sizes in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 5 months ago
What does it mean to say they are equivalent? Not much, and it is very misleading. A 205 tire has a cross section width of 205mm as compared to a 165(mm) tire. It is 40mm wider, at its widest. What the tire rack chart is showing is that each of these tires has about the same outer diameter, and would give about the same speed for a given rpm…[Read more]

Royal replied to the topic Which FiberFab is my car? in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 5 months ago
Are you sure that it is a FiberFab? Daytona first made the MIGI. Daytona also made a MIGI II. Then later, FiberFab also produced kits with the MIGI tag.
Every TDr seems quite different from others of the same manufacturer and even the same name. All MIGI II’s were not created equal. The manufacturers all seemed to take a lot of licens…[Read more]

Super nice work John. I like the use of the engine turned center section of the dash…..in fact, the whole dash is darker than most – I like it. Where did you get the hinges for the glove box/radio door?
A really spectacular TDr, (except for the seat backs which look like tombstones). Please don’t take offense, I’m hard to please – I never li…[Read more]

Allen, depending on how much top down driving and where your car is to be stored, you might want to rethink using Lacquer for topcoat. I recommend reading some about finishes used in boating. I lived in sunny Florida for many years and learned a lot about UV inhibitors before I got smart. But, I left Florida 15 years ago and a lot has ch…[Read more]

I called and asked to confirm that the show was still on for Saturday since there is a lot of flat ground out there and didn’t know about damage from Matthew.
Power is back on. Crews are cleaning up. The show is a “Go”..
See ya’ Sat!

Vicenc, Remember that you said ” Fooled around with the carb setting before posting this and that didn’t work either.” Now you need to “un-fool” around with it. (Assuming that is all you changed.)

Nope, not unusual. The guy that put your kit together pretty much had a choice of where to put the hinges. Flip a coin. (BCW excepted) My Daytona hinges on the passenger side, but it really doesn’t matter.

Vicenc, I’m going to take a guess.
You replaced your old fuel hoses because they were old. When you pulled your old filter off, or when you put your new one in, a tiny spec of rubber on the inside of the old hose was dislodged and found its way into your carburetor. This little piece is now residing happily in one of your carburetor’s idle p…[Read more]

Royal replied to the topic Need advice on how to wire a VW charge light in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 6 months ago
“Special design?” Well, sort of a special design. The charge light was designed to come on when there was voltage across it. That in itself is not special, but how it hooked up was a bit different. One of it’s wires went to the generator (actually the regulator), the other to the B+ of the battery which may have come from any hot wire und…[Read more]
