May 1, 2009 at 11:47 am #238670Hey Guys,
Look down in MGTD Kit Car Parts and Other Stuff for Sale. I have it posted there.
I was going to use it on my Daytona but decided to go another route.

April 25, 2009 at 4:22 pm #237656Here’s what I ended up doing. I still have to paint black behind the grille and repaint the shell itself. I also have some trim to go on the cut.
So now I have a FF chrome grille shell, slats, and original light brackets and buckets for sale. Didn’t end up using them. I have them posted for sale.

January 14, 2009 at 2:32 pm #238092Thanks Mark. That where I bought my new beam.
Aircooled.net has all four torsion arms w/ball joints for $180.00. I thought that was pretty reasonable. Don’t know what brand ball joints they use though. I am like you and would want German ball joints.
January 13, 2009 at 3:17 pm #238090Thanks for the info guys.
Mark,
Did you have any problem with the torsion arms that had the ball joints already installed? Where did you find them with German ball joints already installed?

October 28, 2008 at 9:51 pm #237653I took the shell off and have started cutting it. Committed now… (to cutting it that is) I’ll post a picture when I finish modifying it.
Well we did get snow already…
Way too soon…
October 28, 2008 at 9:23 pm #237632Andre,
Glad you were able to get it. I am trying to work with my fiberglass one. Doesn’t look as nice as a chrome or powder coated one.

October 25, 2008 at 9:13 am #237651Paul,
I haven’t pulled the shell off yet. It feels like maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch before it touches the bodywork. The slats I have are kind of j shaped so there will be some dimension to them. They would not lay flat.
I will use matte black bbq paint as you suggested. Good idea.
I was supposed to cut firewood today but it’s raining and kind of
nasty… so maybe I can pull the shell today. I’ll let you know.I can’t believe they’re calling for snow this weekend. It always seems to come way too fast.

October 24, 2008 at 3:55 pm #237649Paul,
No there is the nose of the bodywork there. That grille shell is a separate piece. It wouldn’t affect the trunk at all. I just don’t like the way it looks… too fake…I do have some grille slats from a real MG TD. I would have to cut’em down a little. I am just not sure how the shell would look once I cut out the fake slats. I am afraid the only way to know is to cut… fire up the chainsaw…

October 24, 2008 at 3:46 pm #237622Well you never now what might show up somewhere… 412/411. I did see some hoods for sale in Portage, Wisconsin. So somewhere there might be a hoodless 412. I would like to know if anyone had ever done the install. Seems like it should fit with just modifying the engine cover which I had planned to do sometime anyway. The Daytona MiGi engine cover is kind of weak. I can’t mount a spare without mods to it.
Moorestown… yeah I went to school at the site you’re talking about. Lockheed Martin was the big contractor there. I was an AEGIS radar operator while in the Navy. I felt pretty old when I found out the state of the art ship I pre-commisioned had been mothballed. Seems like just yesterday.
October 24, 2008 at 10:59 am #237647Not mine, not mine, not mine, and thanks!
I need to do something with the grille though. I believe it’s made of plastic. I was thinking of cutting it out, what’s painted red now, and putting grille slats behind it then painting the grille shell red.
Think it will work?

October 22, 2008 at 4:14 pm #237620Ouch… I have mixed feelings about GB letting Brett go. It’s hard to watch him play for another team.
If Aaron Rogers (the plastic kid) stays healthy it might work out. It looks like it will be a long season for us “Cheeseheads”.
When I was in the Navy I went to school in Moorestown NJ. Pretty nice area. I guess that’s considered Central NJ.
As for the Type IV conversion… I was going to keep my eyes open for a VW 411/412. See if I can pick one up cheap just for the motor.

October 21, 2008 at 3:15 pm #237616I am dreaming. I have more than enough work ahead of me with the car the way it is. The car I purchased had not been maintained in years. Some of the kit parts were not installed and I guess lost over the years. Some of the work that had been done was a hack job that will need to be corrected. The front tube had been cut and turned so I need to replace that. While that is off I plan to put discs on the front as well as a complete front end rebuild. New bearings, bushings, etc. I know the engine will need a rebuild sooner than later. It runs good enough for me to get the rest of the car correct.
I live in northern Wisconsin and my garage is not heated so my garage work is about done for the year. It’s already been in the 30’s. Nothing like cold concrete and freezing metal.
So what’s left for me is to dream about work I would like to do. I was kind of hoping someone had done a Type IV install. It fits in a beetle so… Seems like it would be the way to go…

October 18, 2008 at 11:42 am #237601I checked with Brad at MG Magic and they do not have the false nose available.
So I’m still looking if anyone runs across one.

October 17, 2008 at 8:06 am #237600Larry,
I looked at the photo you suggested and it does look pretty good. My front shell is a little different. I’ll have to hold some slats up to mine and see how it would look. Thanks for the suggestion.
Pat
October 16, 2008 at 3:11 pm #237598Larry,
Using glue to attach the slats is something I hadn’t thought of. I”ll have to look at that. My grille shell is a separate piece so water leakage wouldn’t be a problem. As for being strong enough you’re right it might not be strong enough. I had thought by attaching the slats to the rear of the shell it would strengthen it enough. But not having to cut it out would certainly be easier. I’ll have to take some of the slats I have and temporarily attach them to the outside. Your front grille looks great. I would like to see a close up.
